No job growth
Shitty weather 9 months of the year

Not really that shocking

Well no wonder your not shocked, you didn't bother to read the post. If you read the article you would have read that mort suicides occur in the summer. So much for that theory.

Oh and by the way Texas sucks!

Texas does not suck

Committing suicide in the summer may or may not have anything to do with the 9 months of gray people just got out of in Oregon either.

I swear it's like some of you just look for an argument.

Oh, and since I keep getting edited by the powers that be for non personal attacks, saying Texas sucks is a personal attack since I live here. I am fragile and sensitive, so please edit that post, mods.

It's you who is desperately looking for an argument. You knee jerk reaction that suicide in Oregon is due to the weather and it so obvious. I point out that in the OP, had you read it, most suicides are in the summer and then you change to something like it "may or may no"t be due to the 9 months of gray. Who is looking for an argument? What happen to that shocking comment, or is the shock really that your post was just was baseless in fact and ignorant.

I read the article, and believe it's due to weather, along with the job market.

Nothing about that is ignorant. but that is #2 for person attacks, so I will once again be waiting with breath held for a mod to edit it. Hello, anyone, anyone?

If it is really an issue for you, you can report it/flag it, and it will be dealt with.

My issue isn't the personal attack. It's the double standard that posts of mine that weren't personal attacks are edited, and posts calling me ignorant aren't.

So why back off your position so quickly. You were convinced it was the weather in your first post and then in your second post you said it may be when you learned your whole theory is contradicted by the fact more suicides occur in the summer.

A few more posts and you will be agreeing that it is probably not the weather as that argument really doesn't make sense in light of the facts (unless you go with a total stretch that maybe after 9 months blah blah blah . . . but that is really just looking to argue)

Here I'll do this next one for you: MODS, MODS . . . MM would like to ask for another video replay as he agains cries foul of personal attacks.

I didn't agree with the editing of your one post (I felt it was poorly worded, or at least, worded purposely to create an easy out if caught/edited). But I also don't think his post should be edited.

I think there is a difference, though, in saying "your post is baseless in fact and ignorant" and "you are ignorant".

I'd rather my posts be called that then me be called that.

btw, upon reading the thread again (love doing that), I think you should try it. In my very first post, I said

I wonder what the underline cause is.

After a quick google search here there is some odd information out there.

If I was just being argumentative or combative, I doubt I would have taken the time to find a page to source things (although the link I thought provided apparently didn't work). Nor would I have started with the "I wonder what the underline cause is" comment.

My response to yours, if taken grossly out of context, could be seen as what you said. But taken in the context of my 1st post, and my 3rd post (seen here, and this post here, seems to suggest maybe it was that I actually was putting effort into posts, and not just seeking your name and arguing.

You seem to be very defensive and seeking arguments. is everything ok?

My opinion is that weather and job growth are the cause of the suicide rate. How have I backed off that position? You said I was ignorant and that I didn't read the article, which are not true. Just because the suicides happen in the summer, does not mean they aren't associated with the 9 months of shitty gray weather. To concretely say otherwise is false.

Stop attacking people personally and they won't complain about it.

According to the mod that edited my post, calling my post ignorant is in fact calling me ignorant. Again, double standard. I said a post was fucking idiotic and it got edited. What is the difference?

There was no personal attack in ToB's post.

He clearly attacked your post and not you as a poster. I'm just not seeing the problem here.

Instead of complaining why not help? Instead of making a giant issue out of this why not just say, "You know, it wasn't my intention to perosnally insult _______, I just didn't like what they were saying. I don't agree with you editing me but I'll go back and re-edit my post so ______ clearly knows I was disagreeing with them and not insulting them." I don't understand why you want to turn this into a giant pissing match.

I can't answer that. I didn't edit it. I've already said that I think resorting to name calling and insults takes away from posts and suggests a closed door on things.

Keep in mind, I've been called an ignoramus, fucking retard, moron and an idiot in the last week. All for having a different opinion on things. Had they said "your post was" before it, I wouldnt have cared. Since they didn't...actually, I didn't care either way, because when you resort to name calling and insults, you've shown you aren't capable of having an adult conversation and therefore it's no longer something I worry about.

I try my best, but I know I fail, to not resort to insults and swearing AT people on here. I over-write my responses, and take my time responding. I try my best not to be misunderstood (if you saw the edit process I go through in the middle of posts, you'd probably laugh and be convinced I'm OCD or something).

Not sure what any of this has to do with what you posted though. I probably felt compelled to improve my post after seeing the last few from Nate and SPD.

Awesome. Nor was there in mine to CrandC, but it got edited. Glad to see nothing has changed

Bullshit.

He specifically cited your post in his sentence.

your post was just was baseless in fact and ignorant.

You did not specifically cite the post when you attacked her.

Not even the same conversation, but not shocking. Fucking idiotic.

You know what dude, it was an edit. I tried to explain this to you after your hostile PM's and you're simply not getting it. I'm not sure what your problem is lately, but you need to chill out. A lot of shit gets thrown around on this forum, and sometimes the mods see something that they feel needs to be removed. Just deal with it. Sly has even edited some of my posts from time to time.

If you honestly think that calling someone "fucking idiotic" is acceptable, then I think you need to reevaluate why you're posting here.

I thought weather has a lot to do with the "depression" in an area. I know it's not the only contributing factor; but the "per capita" leaders are in areas with rainy climates.

On the matter, I would think the higher than average suicide rates have a lot to do with the younger demographic moving here, coupled with high student loans and a lack of jobs.

That's not entirely true. In some studies, Las Vegas leads the nation (based on city), and it's weather is hardly rainy. Same with Tucson. Or Albuquerque. Or Tampa (they have a lot of rain, but it's not necessarily cloudy for long periods of time like Portland can be). Or Honolulu. Or Salt Lake City.

Of the top 10 states, http://www.suicidology.org/c/document_library/get_file?folderId=262&name=DLFE-635.pdf, 1 is in a rainy climate (well, reputation of having one). Oregon.

Most people don't think of New Mexico, Nevada, Montana, Utah, Arizona, South Dakota, Idaho or Wyoming having crappy weather.

Alaska, yeah. Oregon? Sure. Is it necessarily a connection? The data doesn't seem to show a connection.

Alaska probably has a high rate because of the extreme lack of women.... and now TLC is stealing even more of their local ladies to make a stupid reality tv show.

Interesting... I'm surprised that Utah would be in the leaderboard; since it is mainly a Mormon demographic. Nevada could be accounted for the losses in gambling I guess. New Mexico and Arizona seems a little odd to me.

Alaska and the 30 days in a row and the 30 nights can really fuck with your mind.

Oregon has too many liberals! ;)

Their daylight and night is crazy.

There are times when they have 18 hours of daylight. Then only 6 hours of night.

Some areas there where the sun never sets and in the winter, the sun never rises.

That can really fuck with you IMO.

Utah could be a repressive religion, or lack of caffeine...who knows. Utah has very beautiful scenery (so does Oregon. Well, all states do).

It's a hard subject to pinpoint what the cause is. It's highly unlikely that the main cause of suicides in the US are different state to state. There might be minor causes that vary from state to state, but I doubt it's anything significant, especially considering that the data doesn't support a polarity of weather related causes.

Alaska has like a 9 to 1 male to female ratio.

That is true, however I don't think those areas are heavily populated, nor would the #'s of people there have the impact on the state averages that would, in turn, greatly change the totals.

With their lack of women, that's the only thing that will be fucking with you :devilwink:

Although I suspect you're saying that to be funny, it's not even close to accurate.

It's actually just about a 1 to 1 ratio. (52 to 48)

Single men to single women?

if the ratio is 52-48, it pretty much means that the ratio of single men to single women would still be close.

For all the married women, there are married men.
