ESPN insider / NBA rumors:

Would he accept an offer to be Portland's GM?

Doubtful. He's been "retired" for three years, and Portland wouldn't exactly be the kind of cachet job I'd imagine he'd come out of retirement for.

I already feel bad for whoever the next GM is because he's going to have entire fan base + the media all over his ass he won't be able to breathe.

Sometimes I think this organization is a comedy of errors.

Did he really do that great a job with Memphis?

Right. And then he'll trade Oden and Aldridge to the Lakers for Jordan Farmarr.

In Memphis he hired a good coach in Hubie Brown. In Los Angeles he chafed having to take the contempt of Buss' kids. I think the Vulcans would treat him with a lot more respect.

If we hire him, I hope it's with the understanding that he's here to train a replacement, since he won't last many years. Similar to the Knicks bringing in old Donnie Walsh.

Ever worked for a family business? When the boss' kids and relatives show up in the office, the circus is in town. It's like a bunch of pedestrians who think they own the street. At least the Vulcans are adults on employee status who know they aren't in the will.

Unfortunately, he would likely want to bring in Tom Penn, and that bridge has already been burned.

Yeah this has all the makings of a repeat of Oregon's search for a head coach....

Oh, were going to get a big name, don't worry.....wait a sec why won't they come here, we offered them tons of money, don't they realize that we a re a better orginization?......oh crap this is dragging on and we are getting bashed by the media...everything is going as planned...all part of the plan, we are not going to rush to make a quick decision.....hurry up and find somebody!....what about an up and comer?...wait, he won't come here...why the fuck not?...we aren't meddling....hey look, tons of GM's are interested in this orginization, just wait you'll see...there is no rush here...just fucking hire somebody!!!.....We can't even get that guy?, what the fuck is going on here?....just get somebody, anybody!

We would like to introduce as our next GM, after a long, thorough and detailed search................. Kiki Vandeweghe (or insert retread here).....

The Mickey mouse theme couldn't be more accurate when describing this orginization.....

How many franchises actually have titles, though? At least he's been to the dance more than a couple of times. That's certainly a lot more than can be said about the majority of NBA teams.

If I were the owner of a sports team, and was considering whether or not to replace my GM, I would want to know who I could replace him with. Maybe this "hiring team" is just collecting data so Allen can decide if he wants to "swap" KP for Jerry West or some other big name.

Of course, I think KP's goose is already cooked, & I'm probably grasping at straws here....but it is about the only possible scenario I can think of where we actually keep KP (aside from numerous reporting errors).

He might consider Portland if the group he's part of currently bidding on the Warriors franchise falls through.
