Positive assessments of Blazer Summer League Players

Clingan is Marc Gasol only 3 inches taller. That is the only thing you'll ever remember out of this summer league.

I was there in Vegas when Dame and Leonard played their very first game. I don't remember a damned thing about Meyers. But I knew we were set for a decade at PG.

I feel we are set for a decade at center. Best summer league since 2012.

The knee brace making an appearance in the 2nd half made me very anxious, ngl.

If I saw the leg brace, my brain refused to remember it.

In fact, what are we even discussing? Braces? Yes I used to have them when I was 15.

he started wearing it after taking a fall on his massive chasedown block. It was traumatizing.

Cligan is 7'2" - very much a positive.

I would like to see him maintain his weight around 280. (He weighed in at 282 at the combine)
Hopefully, as he gets stronger over time, he can do it without adding more weight.

I'm not gonna give up hope on McGowens that he can be a player some day. Sure, needs to be less selfish with the ball and step up his defense. but I like how he attacks the basket and he seems a little bit smoother, than say, Banton. He's shot very well from the FT line and that's been consistent since his college days. three point shooting got better in NBA than in college and I think it could get better still. He has the size and athletic ability to be a good defender. Doesn't seem like he is slacking off on defense, maybe just needs more experience; he's only 21.

Well... Clingan's looking good!
The one thing about Clinton is he seems fundamentally pretty solid. When he gets rebounds the ball stays up at his shoulders. His screens are set wide and solid. He really directs defense from the low post well. His offense is a massive work in progress though. He also gets out of position on rebounds

Yes - I have my doubts he'll ever be much of a scorer, but he's such a force on defense that it'll be hard to justify taking him out ever.

I know I said only positive, but I'm really struggling after last night. Serious question: is Rupert a keeper?

Bro this thread is for positive assessments only. If you have anything negative to say maybe you should start a thread called “negative assessments of Blazers summer league players” or just post it in the Blazers summer league thread.

Please don’t derail conversations, this is your final warning.

If he wasn’t on this team his NBA future would be much more grim. But given the situation I think we will keep him on the roster to judge improvement. He is young and raw. I think time could do him well, but I don’t think he will be a starter and he may be overseas before long.

Reason a lot of could be players which go overseas and do well are bounced out of the league is simply to make room for youth like him who you hope can be a good player on a great contract.

If your concern is his 0-9 on 3's. I would not worry about it. He shot 44% from there with the Remix and 36% with the Blazers. He just turned 20 and his potential on D (7'3" wing span) is enough to keep him for another year.

Remember that picture of CJ in HS

DC is a man mountain. After a couple of years of conditioning he will look like a 7ft2 Dwight Howard. If you wanted a defensive big he was the best in the draft.
The narrative shouldn’t be Clingan Vs Edey, it should be Clingan Vs Holmgren

Eventually maybe it will just be Clingan

Is that CJ (little kid) and Reggie Miller?
That’s Jaleel White AKA Steve Urkel.

Must have been at some kind of celebrity game. Does look like Reggie Miller. Will smith is on the left.

I found that photo online and thought it was funny.

For those that watched last night's game, lots of Blazers looked good for a change. The backcourt of Kennedy Chandler and Terquavion Smith were the scoring heroes (and Smith had a highlight block, and both of them got steals), but I'm more interested in Olivier Nkamhoua. He's not a star-in-the-making, that's for sure, but he got SIX blocks, one of them of a driving dunk attempt that most players would've ducked out of. Invite him to camp!

I imagine he didn't get minutes before because Alex Reese was taking them (and Kris Murray), but Reese bumped his head last night and Nkamhoua capitalized. He also had a wrist injury his last year of college, which probably hurt him in the pre-draft process.

His last year at michigan was very solid. Given his size and strength he deserves a hard look.
