Possible shooters to look at?

The Seattle Supersonics just released Brent Barry according to rotoworld.com. Also on rotoworld.com it mentions how Gordon Giricek, might be released later this month. Should we look into any of these guys for the bench. We could release Mgloire, I know it wont be easy, but he may want to take his release and go to another team where he will play more. Also we have such a logjam at the big man position where swift and mgloire will be lucky to see the light of day, it would be nice to get rid of a big man, and bring a shooter onto the bench for the playoffs or playoff push. Any thoughts on this?

Maybe not Brent Barry, but I think we could have a shot at Giricek. Its just a thought, because I would like to see a set rotation with the big men. I think Boone should be getting like 30 minutes, Diop 18 minutes, Krstic 20, Swat 18, and Swift like 10 minutes. That would be a nice set rotation with the minutes. And I feel like Mgloire is just wasting a spot and we need a shooter because Nachbar and Hassell aint gonna cut it in terms of consistent three point shooting.

Giricek is a little bit more improved Nachbar. Don't think we need him.

Well this was the question I raised in the Brent Barry thread. It's not a matter of whether he WANTS to come here. cpawfan confirmed my own recollection, which is that when a player is waived, he can be claimed within the waiver period by any team that's interested in taking on his salary. If more than one team wants to claim him, priority goes in reverse order of record.

The only teams with worse records than the Nets that are in the playoff hunt are Philadelphia, Atlanta, Chicago, and, I suppose, Indiana.

I certainly don't see Indiana being interested. I would rule out Chicago, as they have 7 guards after the trade. And I really don't think Atlanta or Philly would be interested. I think the Nets could get him if they want to cut Magloire and spend the $. I hope they do.

We don't have a TE or enough cap space to claim Barry or Giriceck off waivers.

Of the big competitors Phoenix, Dallas, Detroit and Cleveland still have a good portion of their MLE. Barry has won a ring, so if I'm looking at my potential last paycheck, I look for competitive chance to win and most importantly a paycheck. Boston has $2.1mm left.

I bet on either Detroit or Boston since both still need backcourt help and can offer $2mm+.

Because, if you didn't notice...we're in the East, and in the playoffs right now.

And we have players, whom I wouldn't doubt would want to make the playoffs.

We have no shot at winning the championship, though. So I'd rather clear cap space, acquire higher lottery picks, give playing time to our young players and use future roster spots on trying to find that top 10 player (which is almost always necessary to win a title).

What's really funny is that Kaniel Dickens is a 6'8" forward who made the All-Star game and is shooting 42% from three, but he was already signed by the Cavs.

That's probably for only 10 days, though. Maybe he's coming back!!

His True Shooting percentage is 8% below average.


To be more specific, he's shooting 36% from the field, 32% from three point range, and is hitting only 53% of his free throws. He's been struggling to make shots for two straight seasons now.
