I know it's been brought up before, but I still do wonder, what is the point of signing your post in this message board format?

Is it a seniority thing? I've been posting on various board formats since 1993. We still used hamsters running on wheels to generate a connections back then.

Is it a pride thing? We can read your screen name. There is no doubt who is authoring the post.

Is it a narcissistic thing? If so, why not print your own name, instead of an anonymous name?

It has always confused me. Compulsive post taggers, please help me out here.

Thank you!

I don't really understand it either, but I'm young. My dad signs "Dad" at the end of his text messages. LOL

Chicks dig it.

Poasts with an x are mobile poastings.

I've been staring at your poast for almost 2 hours and it hasn't moved. It doesn't seem very mobile. Maybe it's dead?

I like to sign my posts with my name in white text...

Nate

Made you look.

I posted about this a year ago. We have Barfo. Where are STOMP and Boob?

I'm gonna start. I wanna be the same as my idol, barfo.

VG

Cool, I've never been anyone's idol before. My usual role is to be an example for parents to point out - "if you don't stop doing that, you'll end up like that man".

Are you sure no one has ever idolized you? I know a lot of people who idolize you and they'd like to meet you. All my tiny friends are asking right now. How could this be arranged?

Leave $2 million in tiny bills behind the 45th tree as you enter Forest Park. My people will be in touch.

What are you talking about?

I got my tiny friends from Mark Chapman. They brought me a shiny new copy of The Catcher in the Rye. When can they meet you? They idolize you so I want to become you.

I have been posting online since 1993-ish. In the old days it wasn't clear who was posting. edo@casbah.acns.nwu.edu (or something) was the only reliable indicator of who I was on usenet. Adding

"Ed O."

made it clear and consistent and also broke up the content from the headers in the river of posts.

I do it out of habit and do it in email and Facebook messages and forum posts.

Ed O.

it's pointless but people do it out of habit. usually old people, or longtime users of the net who haven't changed patterns in 15yrs.

Thanks for the answers. It doesn't bother me that people tag posts, it just seems a bit redundant.

Definitely is not necessary :)
