Average of the top 2...interesting. Even more of a reason to place a ridiculously high bid. However when you have LA in the mix, their thinking will prob be the same. This posting fee is going to be outrageous.

I know what is frustrating to all Yankee fans is the clear lack of definition on several FO issues. Is Cashman just a figurehead or is he in control. How can there be no changes of any significants to the Minor League System. The Cap space, although totally understandable to why it makes sense, however not applicable to this team as it is currently constructed. I firmly believe that it will take at least 2 more years to have any "impact players" coming from the minors into the Yankees starting lineup. I have great hopes for the 3 drafted this year, along with Bird, and several others at double A down. Now Betance and Manny Banuelos still may surprise. Not counting on it but would be nice. Cabral, Nuno and Turley would be a gift. Pineda who knows. So that summarizes our 2014 Yankees in a nutshell "Who Knows"

...I'm not crazy about the prospect of Hal making many of the Baseball personnel decisions...He does not have the passion for the game and for competition like George did...Hal may prove me wrong but that remains to be seen..
...as far as Cashman, either give him the juice to do the job he was hired to do or cut him loose. If you're going to have a General "Manager", let him manage.

My only guess is the posting money is used to secure themselves an asset for future gain, while the tax is money they throw away to other teams who dont want to spend. Its no secret that the Yankees HATE this lux tax, as it was basically implemented specifically to get at them. They might as well call it the Yankee tax.
The yankees never make much sense these days with their 8 different figure heads spouting off garbage, but they have been talking about getting under 189 for years, so it must matter to them. It must kill them to fork that over, and this is the 1st time they are able to reset that tax rate, so that when they DO want to overspend, they dont get killed as much in the process.

As several of us have been tossing around, this offseason will show us exactly what kind of direction this team is headed under Hal. He either wants to win, or he wants to be a fiscal owner worried about bottom line 1st, winning next. The amount of holes on this team provide no room to go half way.

As far as him being more involved with the decisions.....it seriously cannot be worse than Cashman working on his own. I would LOVE an explaination for why they continue to pay this man.

What doesn't explain anything was the quote from Hal in ESPN New York article

Steinbrenner said "dozens of changes" were made in the Yankees department of player personnel in response to the lack of development in the club's farm system, but that Mark Newman, the senior vice president of baseball operations, and scouting director Damon Oppenheimer would remain in their jobs for the upcoming season.

Now let's see, we haven't developed a draft pick of any magnitude since Jeter because I believe Cano was an international signing. So Nearly 20 years and we get "Made dozen of changes"
