I got home from the game last night and watched the DVR of it; it was definitely weird not to hear Mike and Mike, but I think I mostly just miss Mike Rice, even if mispronouncing names and being hungry for nachos or cheesesteaks or whatever is not "professional." However, Calabro is fantastic, and I even had a couple of laughs at Hurd, with "Moe Harkless, Mo Problems!" and calling CJ a nine-piece nugget. He's already better than Tone, but I think it will be easier for them as the season goes on to build some chemistry. Not complaining about the refs on every play was a win for this announce team.

Not as much as the youngins for advertisers.

Which is weird, because old farts have jobs and money. Go figure. I guess the youngins are more susceptible to impulse buying and do not have established brand loyalties like old timers, and that makes them more of a target for advertisers

And in all reality, if Rice wanted to stick around, he really needed to stop crapping on the "Deal of the Game". Seemed like every time he was letting us know that he didn't think it was much of a deal. Of course he was right, but I'm sure the bosses didn't like that.

That is exactly correct. Youngsters are dumb and impressionable and easily influenced by slick advertising. You old farts are stubborn and grumpy misers who would rather eat dinner at 3:15 if it'll save you a buck.

Nice to be right in the middle. :ghoti:

Exactly. Old folks are pretty set in their ways. Young ones are more likely to try something new. Once you get to be my age, you know what works and what doesn't, what you like and what you don't. We had our experimental days, too and those of us that lived through it see no reason to repeat past mistakes for the sake of "change".

Chemistry? Mike and Mike have called 1000 Trail Blazer games or more together. Calabro and Hurd have called 1. What do you guys expect!?!?!? I really enjoyed Hurd because of his youthful takes, and his ability to relate to a younger crowd. Moe Harkless, mo problems for example is something you would never hear from rice. They are new, refreshing and will become More in tuned with our team as the year goes on, which will result in more of a homer call if that's what everybody wants, and is whining about after one game. Give me a break.
By all means, let's wait for 1000 more games of boring playcalling before we compare them to Mike and Mike...

Dinner is always at 4:30....learn the game, then post!

Boring play calling is your opinion. I enjoyed it, and it's only going to get better.
and it not being boring, and assuming is going to get better are YOUR opinions.
Agree to disagree on the first, pretty sure you're right on the second. I have a feeling that I'll forget about Mike and Mike in a year and a half, but that probably says more about me than our new announcers.

Vanterpool on Courtside mentioned there has been an increased emphasis on getting more active in pressuring the ball and getting more steals to push in transition. And there is a slight difference in the P&R coverage -- really interested to see if this defense holds vs a good P&R team.

I like to hear that.

Blazer Illuminati for sure didn't like that. I always wondered why he kept doing it too. haha. the crazy old fuck

Agreed.
We need to be more active on defense, in the back court and front court, need to go for steals and transition baskets, pressure the ball, roam the passing lanes, etc.
I think the new acquisitions Ezeli and Turner make us that much better defensively although we already had good defenders in their positions. The strength of our defense would also rely on Dame and CJ, and to a lesser extent Meyers, improving their defensive awareness and determination, as they all gradually did since coming to the league.
If our defense keeps improving we'd be hard to stop

The discussion with Vanterpool on Dame focusing on not hitting the floor every time he drives to the basket was great to hear.
That takes a toll on the body.

Uncle Fester and old Gomez?
