Has anybody else been following this development? Apparently there is now a memo that shows that the Deputy Attorney General had knowledge of the operation.

I'll pull out the "if this was Bush" card again, but if this administration literally will help supply US guns to Mexican nationals and gangs, just so they can then bemoan the need for more gun control, what else are they capable of manufacturing to advance their agenda?

http://hotair.com/archives/2011/05/04/holder-grilled-on-project-gunrunner/

Under the policy, ATF instructed gun dealers to sell guns to straw purchasers for violent Mexican drug cartels. ATF then deliberately let the straw purchasers walk out the door of the gun shops, knowing that the guns were to be delivered to murderous thugs. With no apparent plan in place to prevent the guns from “walking” into Mexico — over 2500 in all, according to one account — it could not have been a surprise when these guns started showing up at murder scenes involving American victims.
Senator Chuck Grassley has been looking into this for months, but was stymied by DoJ stonewalling. When the Republicans took over the House, we finally had subpoena power — wielded by Darrell Issa, who grills Holder in the video below. Issa first requested the relevant documents by letter — and then, when DoJ again stonewalled, out came the subpoena. DoJ’s response has been a joke, as you can see from the video at the end of the post, and Issa is now talking about holding administration officials in contempt of Congress.

What exactly was the purpose of this operation? Doesn't give details as to the reasons for it. Just says what happened.

I believe the idea was to track the guns, for some reason. What happened is that some of the guns have been used to kill US citizens, and coincidently, the Obama administration used that as propaganda for greater gun control. Hence, the House hearings, which for some reason aren't being covered by the media.

Oh, ity was to track them, to see where they are going? Yeah, without bothering to look into it any more, becuse I don't care to, that sounds extremely dumb. Also, I am going to release guns in the projects in Chicago. And then, you know, just follow where they go. Hey, fuckin-A, they went to gang members. Who used them. Ooops. Almost sounds like sacrificing people to catch bad guys.

Prediction: No one will lose their job over this clusterfuck.

Issa versus Holder on May 3rd.

Or, they get bailed out by the government.

Or, they get a multi-million dollar severance package.

Didn't the DEA do this several years ago with drugs and the same thing happened? Everyone had to know this was a stupid plan but no one had the balls to speak up.

The severance packages are generally negotiated before you accept employment terms. Besides, it's being done with private money, so I can't see where it's your concern unless you're a shareholder.

Will Eric Holder be prosecuted for perjury?

House Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Darrell Issa (R.-Calif.) told CNSNews.com in an interview that he believes the Justice Department is covering up information relevant to a congressional investigation of an operation in which the department knowingly allowed intermediaries of Mexican drug cartels to purchase guns at licensed firearms dealers in the United States and then get away without being arrested or the guns being retrieved.

Last December, two of those guns ended up at the scene of the murder of a U.S. Border Patrol agent who was killed by alleged agents of the Mexican drug cartels.

Issa pointed to two things he says indicates a Justice Department cover up. First, he cites a letter that Assistant Attorney General Ronald Weich, head of the Justice Department’s office of legislative affairs, sent to Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa), the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee on Feb. 4, 2011. Issa characterizes that letter as a “lie.”

Just like all the mishandled money during the housing crisis. I didn't have any money in any of the companies that "went under", hmmm somehow it still seemed to affect everyone though...

Will Eric Holder be prosecuted for perjury?

Maybe he'll get Scooter Libby treatment or Dick Cheney treatment. If he had involvement though, then he should be prosecuted.
