We don't have any talented players that we need to keep.

I'd shed no tears for anyone we lose to get a proven superstar or 2.
 
Just stay away from Drummond and Barnes. Anyone else, I'm okay with in this draft. But those two give off some serious bust vibes.
 
Read somewhere that Nets sat D. Williams the entire 4th quarter last night. If that's true.... NJ has suddenly decided it is going to completely tank the rest of the season, and make it that much more difficult for us to get their pick this year.

I've been worried about this. Them tanking, keep the pick. Then, they should have a bit of cap room this offseason. Sign some new FA's (they should be fairly attractive with that new arena opening soon). We could be looking at a non-lotto pick.

Mark my words... Tanking will not give them top 3. It will guarantee us at most #4 and least #6. Let them tank! I love it!

Well let's go back in history and see how things panned out.

Last season: First Cleveland was the worst team in the NBA and had the best shot last year and that pick didn't win the lottery. It was the #8 pick from Clippers that actually won.

2010: Washington was 5th worst and won the pick.

2009: Clippers were 2nd worst and won the pick.

2008: Chicago was the 9th worst and won the pick.

2007: Portland was the 6th worst and won the pick.

2006: Toronto was the 5th worst and won the pick.

2005: Milwaukee was the 6th worst and won the pick.

Basically, tanking didn't win them the pick and the teams 5-6 worst in won. I would be more worried if New Jersey was 5th, 6th or 7th than top 4 worst. It just seems those are the chances that get the luckiest.

Same here - it's been my one concern. I saw a few posters who ACTUALLY thought the deal was bad because the Nets would MAKE the playoffs this year. Um, yeah right. Not happening.

And Mags, I get what the history shows. But I also am one of the ones who would not be surprised if the lottery is somehow rigged. And the Nets, being in one of the biggest markets, have a brand new arena coming soon. So, this would be a year the Nets would be favored, if it were somehow rigged.

Ha, been saying it will be rigged also. No way the NBA has NJ lose out on a top three pick with a new building in NY. Good enough to make it next year, and Portland has no pick next year, so when we make the 8th seed, Portland will have no lottery picks in their rebuilding process and about 16 million to offer free agents this summer
 
Drummond may fall 6th? If we somehow get a shot at drafting him, I will be stoked! WOW a 7'5" wingspan? And 6'11" 275lbs?!?! Already a man!

Positives: Long, athletic big man. Explosive leaper. NBA body. Excellent rebounder and shot blocker. Intimidating defender. Has perimeter skills and can hit an open jumper. High basketball IQ for a big man. Skilled passer for a big man.

Negatives Inconsistent, doesn't always assert himself. Can be caught settling for perimeter shots. Can be foul prone.

Notes
Drummond originally decided to skip college in 2011 and play another year at the Wilbraham & Monson Academy before changing his mind in late August and committing to UConn. Given his age and the fact that he'll be one year removed from high school, he will be eligible for the 2012 NBA Draft if he wants to declare.

So if it's not, then can we all agree it isn't? If the draft lotto was rigged, then why the hell was Seattle and Portland the winners in arguably the best #1 and #2 picks of the century?

I agree. That being said, Portland still got more than they gave up. Wallace is going to slow down (if he hasn't already). Now we don't have to worry about him exercising his option, so we're guaranteed the financial flexibility, and we do get a first-round pick out of the deal, wherever and whenever it lands. So I love the deal, and it has a chance to be a real sweet home-run-of-a-deal, I just can't get too excited (or Mags-like, if you will - not knocking it, dogg) until I see we have the Nets pick this year somewhere between 4-8.

Can't make it look rigged every year. Plus, Portland was a young, exciting team on its' way up and was getting tons of good press, especially given the quick turnaround from the JailBlazers days. The JB days not only made the organization look bad, but it made the entire NBA look terrible.

And Seattle.... Durant was a gift to try to get the politicians and general public excited about the team, and push a resolution to build a new arena to keep the team there. Stern used to say that if the Sonics leave, Seattle may never get another team, and if they do, it'll be a long, long time away. Well, that was a ploy to keep the team there. Because Stern has already been talking about basketball returning to Seattle.
 
It'll be interesting how Beal measures out.

He could be a James Harden type of SG. I don't like the Ray Allen comparison -- he's shooting in the low 30's from three.

He could free-fall but I think with the second lotto pick we could trade up for Drummond.

Though, I'm still holding out hope for some lotto luck and Anthony Davis. :devilwink:
 
Is anyone really wowed by any of the realistically attainable prospects (this means no Anthony Davis).

I was big on Lamb for a second, but I've cooled on him. Thomas Robinson looks beastly actually, but he plays Aldridge's position.

Woudn't mind Kendall Marshall at all...but only with the Blazers 2nd pick.

Hoping they picks are used in trades more than anything.

NBAdraft.net updated their mock. It's weird seeing the Blazers having two picks in the top-10.

Anyway, they have Portland taking MKG (#4) and Rivers (#11)

I could dig it, but I'd rather have Drummond at #4. Drummond and LA playing PF/C. That would be nasty. Tough inside.

Rivers at 11 would be awesome. Rivers plus Drummond or MKG, whichever was available? I'd say: Rebuilding WELL underway!

I don't give a fuck what position a player plays. If you're drafting in the top of the lottery you take BPA!
