The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office confirmed today that a woman who alleged unwanted sexual contact by Al Gore reported it to police in 2006, and the prosecutor’s office was briefed by the Portland Police Bureau in late 2006 and January 2007.

“We were told the woman was not willing to be interviewed by the Portland Police Bureau and did not want a criminal investigation to proceed,’’ Multnomah County District Attorney Michael Schrunk said, in a prepared statement.

What surprises me is not that it happened, but why the news media buried the story. Wait, this IS the People's Republic of Multnomah County. It all makes sense. On the other hand, the gal waited some time and it would not be unusual for a person to try and gain some fame or notoriety by making something up- remember Anita Hill? But I can understand why she didn't want this to become public.

Any what is the story? It certainly isn't anything about charges being filed... more like police report taken... and any nutcase can call the police and get that to happen. Any why would someone file a police report and not try to prove it was true?

Apparently, she told her attorney early on but was afraid of what might happen to her reputation, so she didn't report it. I get that. The fact it is now coming to light, and not from her, shows her concerns. To me, that lends more weight to her story.

Your presumption that Clarance Thomas, or maybe I should say Clarance Thomas as a black man, is guilty until proven innocent doesn't sit well with me. There was not only no shred of evidence against him, at all, but Anita was well known with staffers from Ted Kennedy's office. I suppose the rule of thimb is this: If your're preceived as a conservative, you're always guilty when accused and if you're perceived as a liberal, you're always innocent when accused.
