Will Cho offer it? It's basically a $9 million gamble on Oden being worth anything after his 5th season, isn't it?

I was just thinking about this. If he does sign the 1 year QO, I'm assuming he is an Unrestricted FA after that, right?

Fuck that noise. I sort of liken it to trying to keep a loved one on life support when brain death has already occurred. Move on, let him go, it's over.

The QO is an option. It allows us to match a contract. It allows us to negotiate a deal with him. It allows us to do a sign and trade. Worst case is he takes it. We ate Darius' contract, we can eat a one year deal.

do it. we've come this far. no sense turning back now

I agree. Long-term big money is crippling...a one year option, even if expensive, won't hurt the franchise at all, since they'll be over the cap either way, so the money can't be used for anything else. I don't expect anything from Oden anymore, but I'd still like the option "just in case."

Of course, it's not my money, so if Allen would rather not spend $8-9 million on a "just in case," I'd understand that.

Whynot? It tu rns him into a nice big expiring contract at worst.

If we don't offer it, Greg signs with Phoenix, and plays 82 games every year for the next 10 years

i think after hearing press conference... blazers are moving on. read between lines. i think they are moving on. dont be shocked if they trade him this feb.

I don't think you can trade an injured player, can you?

I hope what happens is that Greg rehabs on the Blazer tab again, we don't offer a QO, he becomes a UFA, and then he comes here for less money as a loyalty thing.

Buuuuutt, it's not very likely.

The quotes from Hoopshype seem to indicate that this wont happen -- "No way!" said one executive.

You can if the team accepts the injured player. There is no Injured Reserve anymore.

Did anyone even ponder a week ago that Greg's ~$6.7 million expiring contract would be more likely traded than Przy's $7.4 million EC?

What a fucking disaster the past week has been. My worst as a Blazer fan. I feel worse now than I did after Game 7.

I have to think that Greg is going to want a fresh start somewhere, for his own psyche if anything.

The book is closed on the Oden vs. Durant debate. I remember how excited I was when the Blazers won that lottery. Turns out that getting the 2nd pick would have been 'winning' that lottery.

Quick just said on the MSP that he doesn't expect the Blazers to offer the QO, and will eventually cut ties with G.O.

We'll be over the cap next year, anyway. Making a QO won't affect the money we can offer.

No but because we're over the cap that QO will cost the franchise roughly 17 million in real dollars ... nearly the entire amount of money Greg earned in 4 years on his rookie scale deal. That's a bad use of resources on a guy who will likely miss at a minimum the first two months of next season (if his first rehab timeline is anything to go by). And really for Greg's sake, he needs a change of scenery; there's almost nothing but negativity surrounding him here, that's gotta be weighing on his psyche.

It's time to let this guy go. It's over.

keep in mind there will likely be no season for a few months at least next year.
