Quick: Oden probably won't play this season

In a great article about the haunted hotel in OKC, Quick seems to suggest that not only will Oden not play this season, but we're probably done with him altogether. Would someone in the organization please tell us what the fuck is going on?

I don't think the organization is telling anyone anything and Quick like Clownzano before him is just grasping at straws to try and find something worth writing about.

Sucks. I would have liked to see what this team could be with Oden

"With everything he writes, Quick seems to suggest that not only is he an assclown, he's a no-talent assclown."

To save others the need to read a Quick article, here is the passage Eric is referring to:

Also, that ghost of 2007? You know, taking Greg Oden instead of now MVP-candidate Kevin Durant? That's been partially exorcised, too. No, it doesn't appear Oden will play this year, probably bringing to an end a monumental No. 1-pick nightmare for Portland, but at least the Blazers appear to finally be equipped with the right personnel and depth to control the phenom.

Not exactly an indication that Quick knows more than anyone else.

Oden probably won't play this season, or next season, or the one after that.

He also didn't play last season, or the one before that . . .

What else is new?

Oden doesn't play basketball. He just collects paychecks.

Even if he gets cleared for all basketball activities late this season I don't know how anyone could expect him to contribute. He hasn't played the game in over 2 years, this is the longest period of his life he's gone without playing. After his first microfracture he didn't start to get into his grove until the following year, after he had an entire summer of good health to work on his game. I hope to see him on the court in future seasons in a Blazer uniform but for the present I've accepted Camby, Thomas, and Smith are all far superior options.

Ya know at this point I'd love to see him being interesting in sticking around next year on a cheap contract. But I can't blame him or the organization too much if they go in a different direction. I'm a fan of his game and believe he'll eventually have a great season here or there.

If he comes back this year and gives 15 minutes of solid defense and rebounding I will be thrilled. We are playing well without him and even in a reduced role he would do nothing but make us a deeper and better team especially in the playoffs. I am a big Oden supporter but he is nothing but gravy at this point.

"That's the type of guy he is, that's his mindset, that's how he plays," Felton said when I remarked about Westbrook's win-the-battle, but lose-the-war mentality. "He's always in a one-on-one battle with all the point guards. I'm not really into that. I'm into winning. If you win, everybody gets the praises. We are not wearing 'Felton' on the front of our jerseys; it says Blazers. I care about the Blazers winning."
HAHA

and I've said it once I'll say it again, if Quick feels Greg is out the season and won't return I am confident that he will come back this season and resign.

Meh. Quick is merely confirming what some of us figured out a long time ago.

As Shooter said - he doesn't play basketball.

Look: if the organization figured Greg isn't going to play again, why pay him ANYTHING? Why not just let him go? After all, Allen's said he's in cost-savings mode. You don't really believe they'd pay him just to string us along? Wait a minute, I think I saw a black helicopter overhead.

Yeah seems like people aren't seeing this.

Clearly Quick has no idea regarding Oden's status. I think he just dropped that in there to try and get a reaction from the Blazers. In all honesty I don't blame him as I would like to get an update as well.

I, not sure we even want him playing if he returns this season. He'll have a lot of rust. We should send him to D-League as sad at that sounds.

I dunno, they gave him 1.5 million -- Luke Babbitt money -- not exactly the kind of sum that screams, "we believe." but maybe says, "hey if you feel like doing this basketball thing next year, just remember we gave you some money when you couldn't pass a physical."

I do agree that Quick doesn't have any special knowledge of the situation, but I certainly wouldn't be shocked if he does in fact sit out the whole year.

I agree with your post, completetly. Guess I'm still confused as to how that article was translated into exactly what the title indicates.... Did I miss something in the article?

Perhaps the line where Quick typed, "No, it doesn't appear Oden will play this year"

I think they've been down on Oden for longer than most people realize.

Remember the Andre for Devin (and Troy Murphy) rumors a few years back: The Nets wanted Oden in the deal and the Blazer management were "50/50" split on that decision.

Chad just said he hopes he makes it back to the court. Said Oden is very appreciative of the Blazers standing by him. Oden knows what Blazers stand regarding him and hopes he comes back.

Also didn't guarantee that Oden would play just that he hopes he'll play. I get the feeling he's not gonna get out on the court for us.

Kind of the same thing don't you think?

Even if they do not believe he will ever play another game as a Blazer - the $1.5m (if correct) is just smart. He can always be the sweetener in a trade that brings an impact player, if the opportunity presents itself.

Of course, Marc Iavaroni, the Blazers coach might be feeding bullshit to Quick - he has been known to do that before.
