Said a couple of items worth mentioning

1.He and Berger both believe Shaw is the guy. Quick reaches out to Shaw's agent a few times a week, and it has gone from no offer yet, to no comment. Also believes it is one of the main reasons Hibbert is interested in joining Portland.

2. No new Blazer news, but thinks today could be a news day for the Blazers (might have said big news day, but I can't remember.)

3. Thinks Thomas will obviously be back unless included in trade, does not think Portland has any interest at all in bringing back Hickson.

4. Thinks adding a PG like Toney Douglas for basically nothing is a perfect scenario for Portland.

My first choice is still D'Antoni but Shaw seems like a great coach to have for a rookie PG. It'll also make Hibbert's transition smoother, IF we land him.

I am surprised that they would have zero interest in Hickson. I'm not surprised that they didn't pick up his QO, but you would think if there was a role for him here and the money was right they would sign him.

I think they are planning on bringing Freeland over. He'll be the backup PF.

What makes Brian Shaw a good choice?

I think simply because he is so highly regarded, and is next in line to go from assistant to head coach? What I like about him is that he should be able to relate to Lillard very well, being both from Oakland and a PG. I am not posting this as a pro and anti Shaw thing, but

"Familiarity," Bryant summed up. "He’s very familiar with all of us and how we like to be coached. He communicates very well. One thing about Brian is he shoots from the hip. He tells you what he expects from you. He’s very clear with you on what your role is on the team. I think that helps him."

"I support Brian 100%," Fisher said. "It's not my decision to make. If I'm asked for my opinion, I would say I'm comfortable and confident in our ability to help us win. Brian is a winner. He's played as a winner, coached as a winner. That's what he'd bring to the table. Those are more difficult decisions than what I get paid to consider. Those are for Mitch [Kupchak] and Dr. Buss. I'm definitely hopeful Brian will get the opportunity and for whatever reason, if it's not here, that he'll get the opportunity to show people what he's capable of on the sidelines."

I still say there is something negative about Hickson that we just don't know about. Maybe it is a simple as money, but it just feels like he is not well liked by his teammates. .

Brian Shaw said:
Ok, Kobe. Your role is to do whatever you want, when you want. I expect you to do whatever pleases you, and not to worry about anyone else. But if they get in your way, you should ride their asses. But only if you feel like it.

As experienced an assistant coach you'll find. Ex-NBA Player that has won multiple championships as both a player and a coach. Only problem is... as a Laker...

You are forgetting about his epic 0/7.2/7.2 PER 36 numbers with the Blazers

Hey, if he's put on the Red and Black he knows whats up. Answered my own question there.

It's ok, he'll be a Laker again soon enough. He just needs some head coaching practice in PDX before he moves back to LA.

Same here. He's got game.

Awesome thanks man.

Brian Shaw head coach? I like that. Thomas staying? I don't mind that. Teach the youngins. Kinda wonder why we are not keeping Hickson. Maybe they think Meyers is better.

I think craigehlo's theory is the most plausible: Olshey will bring over Freeland and has promised him minutes -- no room for Hickson in that scenario.
