Says that everyone sees that Roy is hobbled and is pressing. Quotes Monty, Ron Artest, and other opponents who have seen that he is not even close to healthy, but the Blazers insist that he is still day-to-day, rest can help him, and that he will be evaluated only when the team returns to POR.

Wow. Isn't this just negligence? How the hell do you just ignore and gloss over the obvious?

He needs to be back home getting an MRI and rest. This situation is really being mismanaged at the very top. They shouldn't care what Roy says about his ability to play, he needs to rest and to be seen by specialists.

I think they've just gotten used to the new Roy. But teams/people that haven't seen him play since last year when he was far more mobile ARE noticing the difference.

The Portland staff just needs to step away from the situation and consider the outside perceptions now to see that he is not right.

Roy really isn't helping the team right now. He can still put up points, but he can't even remotely guard anyone, and the defenses don't have to pay much attention to him

I think he likely should sit. I do think, though, that if he had immediately sat down when dinged up, we would have threads in here calling for his head because he couldn't fight through the pain, and how winners, champions, etc. play through that sort of thing.

I love the armchair doctoring. His knee has been looked at by specialists, by the Blazers team doctors and even by the Hornets team doctor on Saturday - what do you think they're all missing?

A proper sense of hysteria!

Well what exactly are they supposed to do? He has not cartilage or meniscious left in his knee. That isn't something that just goes away. Bone on bone is painful, that is just the facts.

He doesn't seem to be helping the team, so he shouldn't be playing.

An MRI? Something which they haven't done since May.

Unless they have X-ray vision I think they are missing what is going on in his knees. The Oregonian article yesterday said that Roy hasn't had an MRI in 6 months... in part becasue Roy was uncomfortable with the process.

The Blazer management needs to let Roy know that he's an employee and doesn't call the shots when it comes to his knees right now. Get a new MRI and meet in person with the knee specialists. After that, he can talk about returning to the floor.

Yeah, I don't really see the point of trotting our franchise player back out there so he can score 2 points in 20+ minutes and then limp off towards the locker room in agony about half-way through the game. As far as game-plans go, that one kinda sucks.

Brandon hasn't gone home, he is with us here in Memphis, and has been listed as "questionable" for Tuesday's game against the Grizzlies. After watching him leave the game in pain on Saturday in New Orleans, I'm a little surprised there's still a chance he plays in Memphis.

I talked to Brandon back at the hotel in New Orleans after the game, and he was walking fine, and was heading out to find some dinner. He wasn't favoring the knee at all. He just shrugged, rolled his eyes, and that said enough. We're not the only ones feeling uncertain.

Brandon has dealt with this stuff before, and no one knows his knees better than he does. I get the feeling this is going to be a hit-and-miss situation for a while.

I think you trot him out there for warmups and see how he does. If he's moving well, play him. If not, sit him.

I agree with NateBishop that he hasn't really been helping us in the last four or so games. We're 1-3 over that stretch, and probably would've still been 1-3 without him playing a minute. Except we'd have a better idea of how to use Armon, Rudy and Matthews, because they'd all have seen far more minutes.

Roy playing at 40% hurts this team more than helps it.

If MB said that, then in real speak, Brandon needs two complete knee replacements.

chances roy plays =

chances twolves make playoffs

Basically what it comes down to. He has no meniscus in either knee and it's painful. Of course I have no idea but the chance his knee pain has to do with a new injury doesn't seem to be very likely.

And I'm not really sure there's a surgery to help him out, either. Microfracture doesn't seem to be right because that doesn't have to do with the meniscus. That has to do with the articular cartilage that covers the femur. I don't know Roy's medical history but I don't think he's had any problems there.

He pretty much just has to tough it out as far as I know. More likely than not it's not going to be pretty. Bone on bone is painful.

Bone on bone means MF surgery would help that....correct?

For what it's worth, my orthopedic surgeon here in Houston is actually from Medford originally and is a huge Blazers fan. He thinks Roy needs the surgery, but qualifies that with the fact he has never seen any images and knows nothing more about his knee than I do, other than being a surgeon for 30+ years.

If he risks more damage by playing, he shouldn't play. If, at this point, there's no further damage he can do to his knees, then he should play if he can (if the pain will allow it). He needs to play as much as possible (so long as more damage isn't a risk) in order to start adapting to his new reality as a ballplayer.

From what I understand microfracture has to do with the articular cartilage that covers the femur.

With no meniscus though I suppose it's possible his tibia can start digging into the articular cartilage with no meniscus in place and then he'd really be in trouble, but I have no idea how correct that is.
