LOL. I was going to post that same quote.

He was so good in Blazing Saddles and had such a sucessful post NFL career, people forgot what a good player he was. The Lions were dreadful when he was there and he was a lone bright spot.

I'll never forget George Papadapolis. I watched that show religiously. RIP.

The horse was made of paper mache.

Pretty amazing a former NFL player lived to 77. That's about 20 years beyond a player's life expectancy.

RIP

OK, while we're on the subject of Blazing Saddles. dviss, I need some comment!! ;)

Where I remember him is Monday Night Football, 1971-74. He brought comedy to the show for the first time.

I remember one game he kept talking about the cheerleaders and Howard Cosell told him to cool it. He may have had a drink or two. Another time they praised some famous coach in the stands as the camera zeroed in, and the coach flipped them off on primetime TV. They all laughed and showed it again later. His rebellious presence changed the tone of the show to lighten up.

He played in the pre-steroid era. That was also back when you could be 6'2" 250 and be all all-pro defensive tackle. These days, you need to be about 6'5" 330, which puts a lot more stress on your heart. He also seemed to keep himself in good shape after his playing career was over.

In addition to Blazing Saddles and Webster, I also remember him playing Potatoes Brumbaugh in Centennial.
