This morning on Mike and Mike Chris Carter was talking about some QB's. He talked about Cam Newton, Michael Vick and Tim Tebow. When talking about Cam and Vick, he raved about their mobility and ability to extend plays. Saying they were difference makers who helped their teams win. When talking about Tebow, he said he was not a good starting QB and defenses would figure out easily how to stop his running. Said he is ONLY 3-3 as a starting QB with the Broncos.

So my question is this...

How are Vick or Newton any better?

Newton is 2-6 as the Panthers starting QB. That is worse than Tebow

Vick is something like 9-9 as the Eagles starting QB. My math says that is the same as Tebow

I am a Raider fan, and in no way am trying to make Tebow out to be great. However, why do those guys get a free pass and he doesn't?

Vick 62%
Newton 60.6%

Tebow 46.4%

As you can see...Tebow sucks, Hard. Might be the worst quarterback since JaMarcus Russell

I've been thinking about this for a few weeks. I don't think it's racism, though in the NFL there are a higher number of black commentators, analysts and pundits b/c of the propensity to get ex-players for those roles (I generally like that perspective a lot.), but it gives someone an easy excuse to play the race card that if Cris Carter and Deion and others are dumping on him and not Newton or Vick, it's b/c they're racist. No, they're ex-players critiquing current ones, and that's their right (and job). My initial thought was anti-outspoken-Evangelical-Christianity...

Exhibit 1: JaMarcus Russell was one of the worst quarterbacks EVER in the NFL. Drafted higher than he should've been, lots of pressure, etc....and while defenses used the same tactics as they are on Tebow (confusing him with blitz and coverage packages that he couldn't handle, hitting him when he tried to run, etc) I NEVER saw someone mock him on the field with fake praying, fake fingers-pointing-to-God, trash-talking him between games, etc. I didn't see that for Jimmy Clausen. I didn't see that for Akili Smith. I didn't see that for any number of over-hyped, unperforming quarterbacks, black or white. Hell, Ryan Freakin' Leaf didn't get the treatment Tebow's getting. So if it's not black or white, if it's not "sucks or not", if it's not "high first-rounder vs. others", then what could it be?

Exhibit 2: It's not just black players, or even black ex-players who are doing it. Golic and Merrill Hoge are two of the bigger "haters" there are about Tebow. Hoge (who's a good analyst, and does a lot of film breakdown) even lied on camera the other day, saying that for all of the supporters (I'm paraphrasing) that "they've already built an offense around Tebow and he sucks. He takes sacks in less than 3 seconds, but every other quarterback deal with that." First, I didn't watch anything more than highlights of the last two starts (no LeaguePass for me, my Sundays are generally booked) but with two sick infants this weekend I got to watch the entire game. Tebow had designed rollouts, option reads, and 3 or 4 zipped-on-the-money passes to go with his 5 'WTF?' throws. He won his second game in three starts, and ran for over 100 yards while passing for 2 long-ish TDs. I haven't seen Hoge since then, and maybe he's apologized for his ridiculous comments, but I doubt it. He hasn't broken down Newton, or Colt McCoy, or Christian Ponder, or (heaven forbid) Charlie Whitehurst or Tavaris Jackson, so it's not just "Hoge breaking down the young quarterbacks to see who's crappy or not." At least when Gruden does his breakdowns in the offseason before the draft, he points out equally to the quarterbacks (from a coach's perspective) what he thinks they're doing right and wrong. And I've never seen Hoge break down how much Jay Cutler sucks because of the sacks he's taking.

But then I realized that it's not just the racial or Christian aspect, b/c:

Ray Lewis delivered on Sunday night one of the greater "Glory to God who ordained this win and dropped blessings into Torrey Smith's lap" post-game speeches ever on SNF. I'm way more of a whacky Christian than most on here, and it was like something I'd expect in a fiery Sunday-morning sermon where we didn't care who was listening--the Word was getting preached. Yet I've NEVER seen someone (even Hines Ward at his peak) that mocked Ray Lewis. They knew they'd get hammered.

Deion was flamboyantly Christian in his later career...never saw anyone mock him for it.

Kurt Warner's wife got more grief for their beliefs than Warner ever did.

Multiple Raiders came up to Tebow after the game, giving him handshakes and saying they were praying for him. It's not that Christianity (or any other religion) is a lightning rod in the league (though it does make people uncomfortable and gives way to people making "whacky Christian" comments), b/c a lot of players kneel for TDs, raise fingers to the sky, etc.

For me, (and I hate how this sounds, but I think it's true) it's bullying. A group of people buy into the incessant 24/7 coverage of this guy and, instead of picking him apart like analysts can (and do), they feed into the "there's a weaker player, and everyone's jumping on him with no repercussions, so I'm going to also." Combine that with Tebow doing the whole "I'm just going to take it like a man" thing. He's not standing there after the game saying "I'm shoving this game up the @$$ of all you haters, Eff you, come at me, bro! We're one game out! Suck it! I have as many wins in 3 games with this shit team that traded its best player than Cam Newton and Sam Bradford do!" No, he's saying "I wasn't good, I need to get better, I'm going to come in Monday and work hard."

One thing he's done is turn me into a guy who doesn't equate the Broncos with the L*kers anymore. Though it pains me that any success they have will go to Elway's credit. I really don't like that guy.

Everyone knows whites can't quarterback in the NFL.

Yet his shitty Broncos teams have won as much and more than Vick's "Dream Team" Eagles and Newton's Panthers, respectively

Black people definitely overrate Vick, and now Newton. I don't know if that's racism or not.

Even if you went just by one stat, he's not even the worst quarterback in his conference this year.
Blaine Gabbert, 45.7. Taken with the 10th pick.
(NFC Honorable Mention) Charlie Whitehurst, 48%
Carson "two first-rounders" Palmer. 48%.

BTW, here's another one. Aaron Rodgers leads the league with an 8:1 TD/Int ratio. Who's next, with 6:1? Hint: Not Newton or Vick.

I'm not saying the guy is Brady or Rodgers incarnate. I'm not saying he'll ever be as good as Vick or Randall Cunningham. Heck, he may turn out worse than Newton and Ponder and Gabbert. But hyperbole like yours shows that we're not talking about football anymore, we're talking about something deeper. And that sucks.

Lemme get this straight...are you trying to tell me that the other 21 Broncos are dragging this team along with Tebow weighing them down? Where were they when Kyle Orton and Brandon Marshall were leading them to a 1-4 record?

Someone who's a Raider fan will have to tell me if they just had a bad day or not, b/c I don't get to see them much, but my thought is that if your O-Line gives up 20-something sacks in 3 weeks, but plows over a division rival for 300 yards...you haven't been running the ball enough.

As an avid Raider fan, I will tell you they had a bad day. Palmer isn't ready yet, and McFadden was out injured. The Broncos are running a bit of a spread offense that Oakland had the pleasure of seeing first. Tebow will have to improve to be a decent QB, but like the Wild Cat offense of the last few years, it will be successful until defenses learn it

I get that Palmer's not ready (though he had 3 throws that I think Brady and Rodgers and that's about it could have made), and McFadden out, but that's not the reason they got 38 on you. I was expecting a 17-9 type of game or something. And it didn't matter if it was Tebow or McGahee, they weren't getting touched until the second level on a lot of plays. I thought the Raiders D was stouter than that, but if it was just a bad day and not being prepared for the spread, I get that.

Palmer's not the reason they lost that game and Michael Bush is a still a very solid NFL running back.

Michael Bush is not Darren McFadden though. I thin kthere was a pretty good chance that McFadden wins the rushing title had he stayed healthy. As for Palmer......He has thrown 6 int's in his first two games, while Campbell has thrown 4 total

I think both are huge reasons they lost that game. Certainly not the only reasons though. The defense was non existent against the spread

The reason they lost the game is because of horrible special teams and they let Tebow rush for 120+ yards on them.

McFadden would have been up there but there are so many RB's who have or at close to 100 rushing yards a game, its gonna be interesting to see who takes it down.

Tebow's not horrible... but he's a really bad passer. He misses easy throws and he misses tough throws.

Both Vick (especially the present iteration) and Newton are far better passers.

Ed O.

2 of the 3 are convicted felons.

1 of those 2 is a psycopathic sadist.

The other is a thief and a liar.

The 3rd guy is a hypocritical god-plugger.

Football is dead.

hypocritical god-plugger

Literally the first time I have ever done this, but link? I have never seen one instance where Tebow has been hypocritical

Strawman. Tebow's human...he sins every day, just like the rest of us. Maybe someday he'll get caught in a lie, or disrespect his mom publicly, or commit adultery or get a DUI. What he preaches (and practices) is that he has faith that Jesus died to forgive him of those sins and allow him to live eternally with God. And he quotes from the Bible.

For someone who doesn't have a clue about theology, there sure are a lot of ignorant religious-esque statements being dropped.

I have been thinking of this issue about Tim Tebow and I feel that with regard to the majority of African American analysts' ideas about Tim Tebow- their ideas are race driven (obviously Hoge and some others have their own stardom in mind). But, many black analysts (and players) have said outward that they are angered by Vick's treatment - and if he were white- he would have not been made into such a Villan. This love affair with Vick made me look into this bashing of Vick- and I have only seen one African American analyst beyond a few african american basketball players (a current player who was a guest analyst) who supported Tebow. Every other African American analyst (dozens of them) have thrown Tebow under the bus and have been very negative. I got to thinking about it a few weeks ago- and thought the motivation must be the belief that Tim Tebow is being elavated by white fans because Christian fans are racist and want him to win. We went through this with the NBA when many black analysts believed that Larry Bird got all the attention that he did because he was white. I felt that the must have believed that Tebow was getting a pass because he was white- and that black quarterbacks who were mobile did not get such a pass. Well, today on TV- Steven A. Smith (a total racist) was on with Cordell Stewart and they were arguing with another analyst about Tebow and Stewart finally said that there is alot of animosity towards Tebow by black quarterbacks because black quarterbacks never got the benefit of the doubt that Tebow got- i.e. the Charlie Wards, Warren Moon's etc. He was blatantly saying that the animosity towards Tebow is the feeling that he is getting a pass because he is a white quarterback- and when he said this- Steven A. Smith got up and hugged him and said "I could not say it any better." Now you are to tell me that this is not racism? We need to start holding these black sports announcers to the same standards of sensitivity towards race that whites are held to. Rush Limbaugh (I think that he is a jerk) was bounced because he said that that media wanted black quarterbacks to succeed. Will ESPN now bounce Steven A. Smith and Cordell Stewart for making the same kind of comments? I bet that not one word will be said about it...and that is why the NFL is going to lose people. IF they want to turn this into another NBA where black analysts have sat around blatantly bashing the games of every white player- they will lose alot of us. Just the thoughts of someone who is fed up with a double standard.

I dont know if anything was referring to race or intended for that. But I will say this. As a Bronco fan, I would take Vick, and Newton a million times over Tebow. Is he the first ever Fullback to be drafted in the First Round?

If Tebow finishes the year .500 as a starter he will get massively more respect. Right now its too small a sample size with wins against a winless Dolphins team and a Raiders squad missing both their MVP RB and a QB on his first franchise start.

Tebow is a far better runner than Cam, there is a reason Cam was his backup at Florida. Tebow has the running skills of an elite running back. But if you watch him throwing the ball in games instead of critiquing analysts you can see some of his god awful passing issues. Maybe an offense can be designed around the option or some schemes that allows him to be a very successful quarterback. Hell the Dolphins a few years ago reeled off big wins by playing offense without a QB for basically every snap.

I was intrigued to see McGahee have such a dominant day running the ball in the Raider game. The Broncos ran for 300 yards, you can live with 110 passing yards with such crazy running output. The Raiders defense had to have a spy ready in case Tebow ran the option and that spy put the defense out of their normal running defense, allowing McGahee to have massive running holes between the tackles. Makes you think about the success McCoy has in Philly playing with another scrambling QB. Maybe Tebow can be successful in that type of offense.

Netwton has more of a fullback body then Tebow. Vick has the body of a corner.

I was referring more to what the players might be best suited for in the NFL. It was more tongue in cheek to my lack of hope with Tebow as the starting QB of my team.

I'll trade you both tav Jackson and Charlie whitehurst for him

He's a paid shill for Nike, a company that reaps billions of dollars from child slave labor.

Don't sell yourself short. I wouldn't say you are clueless.
