Rahim talks are back on but.........

Today I read in the Star Ledger(got to go to realgm.com & click the link becuase it wont let me hyperlink the article without you guys having to register,sorry) that the Nets & Blazers are once again in talks about a possible trade that would send career 20 & 8 power forward Shareef Abdur-rahim to the Nets. But the blazers have made a wild demand, they want the Nets #1 from the Clippers (via trade with Denver in the K-Mart deal) to be thrown in with Kerry Kittles & Aaron Williams.


So my question is, Is Reef worth all that? I mean Rahim is not a replacment for Martin in my opinion but the Nets & Bruce Ratner would save face with some of the players & fans that are extremely upset with the loss of Martin.

But this brings me back to my question is saving face worth all that? This trade leaves us with a hole at the Center spot, seeing as Aaron Williams in my opinion is our most productive Center. It leaves us with a hole at 2-guard as the blazers will be recieving our best shooter & starting 2-guard. And now with the recent developements, it leaves us without our best pick from the Martin deal, seeing as the Clippers pick has the potential to be the highest of all three picks. All this for a guy who has never been apart of the playoffs in his 8 seasons. And put up his best # on some of the worst teams in basketball.

So while Reef as of right now is the Nets best option of filling in for Martin. And maybe giving us an outside chance of staying competive for the east title. I think that is a bit to much for Reef. I could understand and even except giving up the Denver's natural 1st round pick they gave us along with Kittles & A.Will(even tho I wish A. Will could stay but that isnt realistically possible). Seeing as the Denver pick has the least likely-hood of becoming something extra special, as denver will be an easy look for the playoffs for the Next 4 or 5 years easily. But no way should the Nets give the Clippers pick in the deal & I would be very reluctant about giving up the sixers pick, But anyway......

What do you guys think should the Nets pass on Kittles, Aaron Williams, & the Clipper pick for Shareef Abdur Rahim or should the Nets go for the All-star caliber Power forward with this current deal on the table?

That is way to much to demand for Rahim due to the fact that he is only now an above average PF in the league and his prime was about 2-3 years ago. If the Nets are smart they should just accept the fact that they are now in the rebuilding process and just look forward to the draft next season.

Its hard to say that Reef is past his prime per say, he is still only 27 years old, If we would have kept Martin, around 27-28 years old would have been around the time we expected him to reach his peak as a basketball player. And you cant really judge if Rahim is past his prime by last year with the Blazers because he was just in a role off the bench he has never been use too. Even tho, it does say something about him that he didnt setup & produce on a team he could help make the playoffs. But the guy has been a 20 & 8 player, the two & a half seasons before he got traded to the blazers before the deadline last year. But I do agree that is too much for Reef.

Me personally Iam ready to except the fact its time to fall back & rebuild. But Following the Nets for a decade plus, I have seen what rebuilding looks like in NJ. And its a diffcult pill to live with especially when you have the best point guard & emerging wing player. And you have that feeling deep down in your gut that if you can find a good inside player with a few other parts, they can easily stay competive & probably come out of an eastern conference that still isnt an over dominating conference despite having the world champs there and the most dominate player in the game as well in Shaq.

It's ok to trade ATrain+Kittles+1stPick. If Reef comes to NJ, he will be the starter. Maybe He can become 20-10 player or better than that(Because a west good PF moves to east,would be better PF). I think we have no time to rebuild until 2-3 year later, we must have a power foward right now. Don't be worry about our center, because we still have Collins and Krstic. Atrain is not tall enough, so it's ok to be traded for 20-10 Reef. 1st Pick? that is the future, just give Portland, we still have 2.

But i am worry about that who will play SG next season ? Harris ? Planinic ?

i think that this deal is bad for the nets. my opinion would be to change it to:

Nets Give:

Kerry Kittles
Aaron Williams
First Rounder

Portland Gives:

SAR
Q.Woods
First Rounder

This seems more realistic, since they would be filling in the 2 spot. Also, Q.Woods has changed his image durring the summer leauge. he also said that he will try his best and stay away from the drugs and all. Not sure, but to me its fair. The only thing might be taking out the first rounder for portland and only offer SAR and Q.Woods.

^I doubt Portland would give us Qyntel Woods, they have been impressed with Woods in summer league and I think they are going to give him an opportunity to prove himself this year as a Small Forward off the bench. So they probably will be keeping him.

As far as the Nets backcourt postions, goes they were interested in Damon Jones at the start of the off-season, I know alot has changed since then but DJ in my opinion would still be an excellent reasonable choice to add to the Nets backcourt. That would give the Nets a 3-guard backcourt rotation of Kidd,Harris, Damon Jones who can all play on or off the ball in the backcourt which would make the Nets backcourt alot deeper in reality then it is on paper. Also Zoran would find a spot in the rotation as well.

I dont like Kristic as an everyday backup for Jason Collins because he isnt proven. And with the inconsistent play of Collins you need a solid backup for him

I actually read in the post something about Portland being interested in a trade Involving Collins. i.e. Collins + Kittles for Rahim. I honestly have no opinion on it, other than questions. Is it worth giving up a younger guy rather than an older guy (A. Williams)?

It would be saving a quality guy like Williams on the Nets and giveing away Collins (a supposed team play with intangables).

I wanted the nets to sign Chris Anderson cause that kidd comes in to play everyday looking like he has something to prove. I also wish they would try to sign deshawn stevenson to a short term contract cause this kidd gets better every year he just needs the right leadership and a decent amount of minutes on the floor with a real point guard. QRich is another player i would have not minded having him come over. Keon Clark to he would be a decent back up

The Nets should get Reef, he's a great offensive player, and he'll help the Nets immensly. I bet if the Nets get him, they are going to have a great season, and Net fans would be like "Martin who?", okay maybe not that far. But the guy has game and he's VERY underrated.

Me personally I could definately live with the Nets giving up Collins instead of A.Will production wise. But the Nets are already taking back more salary in a Rahim for Kittles & Aaron Williams deal, so if you take Williams out and put Collins who is still playing on a rookie contract basically, the Nets would be taking on way to much money in return, so it wont work under the cap.
