RAND PAUL TESTS POSITIVE FOR CORONAVIRUS DAYS AFTER HIS FATHER DISMISSED PANIC OVER THE DISEASE

Kentucky Republican Senator Rand Paul's father, former Texas Congressman Ron Paul, penned an article titled "The Coronavirus Hoax," just six days before his son became the first U.S. senator to test positive for COVID-19.

"Senator Rand Paul has tested positive for COVID-19," Paul's office announced on Twitter Sunday. "He is feeling fine and is in quarantine. He is asymptomatic and was tested out of an abundance of caution due to his extensive travel and events. He was not aware of any direct contact with any infected person."

Paul's office said that the senator "expected to be back in the Senate after his quarantine period ends and will continue to work for the people of Kentucky at this difficult time." They also noted that no staff has been in contact with Paul as his D.C. office went remote 10 days ago.

Romney to self-quarantine after Paul tests positiv

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) on Sunday became the second senator to self-quarantine after Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) announced that he had tested positive for the coronavirus.

The announcement came less than an hour after the Senate was set to hold a procedural vote on a massive coronavirus stimulus package, leaving Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) short another GOP vote.

"Since Senator Romney sat next to Senator Paul for extended periods in recent days and consistent with [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] guidance, the attending physician has ordered him to immediately self-quarantine and not to vote on the Senate floor," Romney's office said in a statement on Sunday.
