People keep saying stuff like that, but it looks great to me. I only brought my iPhone and iPad to Scotland so perhaps it's some sort of iGlitch.

It looks like you took the picture with your phone rotated landscape.

The picture I see has the sky on the left, the ground on the right. Rotated left 90.

Yep.

All the photos you showed were rotated.

Ok, it's the image hosting site I was using to post my photos. Tinypic.com. I don't know why, but they rotate some photos randomly.

By the way, the little shack in my Avatar is the oldest building in Scotland, a Chappell built in 1130ad.

If you win more than $600 (I think) at the casino, they make you fill out a 1099.

Q: Dear Tax Talk:
I go to the casinos around my area and play a variety of games. On some winnings I get a 1099 and on others of the same amount I don't. Don't they have to give me a 1099 when I win more than $600?
-- Bob

A: Dear Bob,
The chances of getting a 1099 depend on the amount and the odds of your wager. In a pari-mutuel or lottery setting, the general rule is that to be reportable on Form W-2G the payout has to be 1) $600 or more and 2) 300 times more than the wager.

In a casino setting, the rules differ. These requirements do not apply to winnings from bingo, keno and slot machines.

In bingo and keno, game winnings are aggregated; in slots they are not, for obvious reasons. For example, if you have $1,000 in credits on a $1 slot machine and you hit a spin for a $1,200 or more payout, only the one win is reportable. The existing credits are not aggregated to determine the reportable winnings, as there is no determination as to the number of bets.

When these gambling winnings are reportable:

• The winnings (reduced by the wager) are $1,500 or more from a keno game.
• The winnings (not reduced by the wager) are $1,200 or more from a bingo game or slot machine.
If you play table games, for the most part your winnings are not reportable.

Generally, no tax is required to be withheld unless the winnings exceed $5,000. If the winnings exceed $5,000, then 25 percent can be withheld from the entire amount for income taxes.

Form 1099 is used to report prizes and awards, such as winnings from TV shows. The $600 threshold also applies for these types of winnings.

Isn't that what I said?

I play poker (not video poker) and it is 600 for that if you hit a bonus (at least at the places I have played at).

Happy hour is illegal in the state of Massachusetts.
It's also illegal in North Carolina
North Carolina ABC permitted establishments may offer happy hour food specials only. ABC Rule 2S.0232 (b) states, “An on‐premise permittee or his agent shall not give away a drink or sell the drink for any period of time less than one full business day.”

The dunce cap of schoolhouse fame originates from a paper cone that was placed on the heads of accused witches during the Middle Ages. When Joan of Arc was martyred, she was wearing one of them.

Being born in Detroit and being from a long line of Detroit automotive workers, mostly for Ford, I've probably heard all of those crazy-but-true stories throughout the years.

Ford was also the only American mentioned in Mein Kampf (where he's referred to as a "great man"), Hitler kept a life-sized Henry Ford painting in his study, and early Volkswagen models used the Model-T design.

Then of course, there's "The International Jew,"... http://www.biblebelievers.org.au/intern_jew.htm

Regardless of Ford's antisemitism though, Ford's still a great company, a company that did not take the federal bailout like the corrupt Government Motors, and here's a random fact - Ford has had both the best selling pick-up and sports car for over a decade.

Many of my relatives growing up would not ride in a German car or a Ford car. But the anti-Semites from those days are long gone, and I have no reason to believe there is still that frame of mind. So I have no problem with buying their cars today.

I may actually buy a new car later this year, and I will be looking at fords. I don't love them, but they are a good mix of affordable, well built and fun. If I had a few more bucks I'd be looking at German automobiles.
