<div class="quote_poster">kobimel Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Anyway, I had my first practice of the season yesterday. The time was great, 1:15-2:15 PM, but nobody was really fit (including me) so the practice was very hard despite the fact that I could usually do it easily when I'm 100% fit. We had to run 15 minutes before practice (no airconditioning!!!), which is usually pretty easy for me but it was surprisingly hard. Then we had simple lay up drills (2 players, 4 passes across the court horizontally, finish with a layup at the other end), but I couldn't even finish the drill (nearly nobody could actually). I did the best I could, but I knew I was about to throw up so I stopped playing. I threw up, and skipped the 3 on 3. Joined the practice again only in the 5 on 5 games up to 7 points. That's what I get for sleeping around 13 hours in two days (not THAT bad but after getting used to sleeping 19-21 hours in two days, it's tough) and eating yogurt for breakfast 15 minutes before the practice.</div>
I remember back in 8th grade me and two of my friends got the bright idea to have a few drinks before basketball practice. Me and one of the other guys only had a shot or two but the other guy filled up a coke can with whiskey and downed it while we walked back to school. Needles to say he was f*cked up real bad, I'm sure our coach knew too but he didn't say anything, he only went for about 5 minutes before he sat out the rest of practice out and threw up a few times.

I know it's not great music, but from ages 5-15 or so I listened to top 40 radio. Bands like Third Eye Blind, Semisonic, New Radicals, Smash Mouth, Beck, the Verve, Ace of Base, etc. Hell, even **** like Usher and Alanis Morisette will spark nostalgia. Good times.</div>
Agree, I remember one time a year or so ago being with my cousin and Ace of Base came on and we were all pumped because we hadn't heard it in like 10 years. Dunno why but all the stuff from the 90's seems glorified to me too, even despite its extreme corniness.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I love blocking big guys. I'm 6'0 with a 23 standing leap, so when guys turn around, I jump full up and block their stuff out of bounds. I love it.</div>
Same. I'm 5'10, don't know what my vertical is but I'm sure its horrible. Most of the time I'm just playing pickup games and the big ass dudes have no technique so its not hard at all to stuff their ****. Still fun though because everyone oooo's and ahhh's.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">In our league, we had a guy who was nearly 6'3 in 8TH GRADE. He was HUGE, and I had to guard him. Wasn't really talented though, he had a decent shot but no post moves. I even blocked him once (I was around 5'9, not much of a vertical back then so it was a big accomplishment).</div>
My friends brother is an incoming freshman and a few centimeters short of 6'9 (this is as of last November BTW so he may be even bigger now). I played tackle football with him the last two Thanksgivings and the dude is a flat out beast, he was 6'7 the first time I played him, almost 6'9 the following year. Dude looks like hes about 29 too and hes a very good athlete for his size. From what I heard he completely dominated the basketball league he played in but I don't think hes actually that good. I'm sure I'd kick his ass if I ever played him one on one but he should get some great coaching now in our high school and he'll probably end up being a beast.
Back in 8th grade I had to play PF/C on defense half the time (I'm a PG on offense) because we had only a few guys big enough to matchup with other teams "bigs". Even though I played PG and was the size of your average 8th grade SG/SF I could play defense and rebound like a beast so I had to defend a lot of the huge guys on the other teams. I remember this one game going up against this giant tongan dude, must have had me by 4-5 inches and 50 pounds and I completely dominated him. They kept pounding it to him expecting him to have a great mismatch advantage but he never scored on me the entire game (they never called fouls either luckily lol) and I probably outrebounded him by a huge margin as well. Thats just another case of a big guy who doesn't actually know what hes doing though, I'm sure I'd be owned by any guy 2 inches taller than me if they were coached well.
