Just got back from southern California after a 12+ hour car ride. Just today I drove from Escondido to San Diego, went to 3 colleges there, drove up to Santa Barbara, saw UCSB, then drove from there home to San Francisco. Over the last 3 days we drove over 1200 miles, needless to say my back is killing me and I need a good workout. Traffic is nuts down there, everything is under construction making it much worse, everything is extremely spread out and public transportation is horrible so you have to drive in the horrible traffic everywhere, great weather though and lots of fine ladies. Visited a bunch of colleges (Long Beach State, San Diego State, University of San Diego, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara) heres my report on them:
Long Beach State: Really liked this one. Pretty big campus but not gigantic, not going to wow you with amazing views but the campus is nice. I love the neighborhood its in and dug the scene there in general, didn't see a whole lot of girls there but what I saw was nothing special (though not bad). They've got a building for every different type of field, seemed like they had a lot of science and arts. Overall I liked the atmosphere, liked the location and surrounding area(I'm not fond of either LA or San Diego for a variety of reasons). I'm definitely applying there.
San Diego State: Campus is fucking huge, takes up like a whole neighborhood, everything looks brand new. Saw quite a few good looking girls there. In a cool little neighborhood but outside of there its a pain in the ass to get around (though probably easier if you know where you're going). I'll apply there but probably would be fairly low on my wish list.
USD: Beautiful campus, campus isn't that big (though its not really small). Lots of fine ladies, seemed to be in line academically with where I want to be (whereas most public schools are known for science, which I hate). They have less than 5,000 students though so its probably hard as hell to get in. Definitely apply here and I'd be hard pressed not to go if I got in even though I would like to go to a bigger school ideally.
UCSD: Wasn't feeling it at all. Its a gigantic campus thats somewhat isolated from a lot of the city (the other 3 San Diego schools were all pretty close to one another right off the same highway). Seemed very slow and boring, isolated, I just wasn't feeling it at all plus they are known for sciences and I'm definitely not going into that. Plus the girls were pretty ugly from what I saw and its hard as hell to get in. Glad I visited because I definitely don't want to waste an application on them.
UC Santa Barbara: Very nice campus, pretty large campus and modern looking. The campus is like its own little community away from the city, I liked the atmosphere and it seemed like there was plenty of stuff to do. Saw several good looking girls there. Only downside is that I don't care much for the city of Santa Barbara and its pretty far to get to another major city. Still, I dug the atmosphere and I'll definitely apply.
Also saw a bit of Loyola Marymount since my sister was registering there. Nice campus in a very nice part of LA. Like I said I don't fancy myself living in LA much but it was a nice school.
Oh and Howard Johnson hotels suck ass, avoid them at all costs. We were only there because they're one of the only hotels that let you check in as a 19 year old.
