Yeah, I got a C on my Calc test. Should have been an A. I did the problems the way peg said, and got the right answers, but she marked them wrong because I showed her the "wrong work". And then I asked her why these got marked wrong, and she said, "you just did random work, its just a coincidence you got them right", and I was like "no, all I did was the powers rule there", and she was like "your not supposed to know that yet". So gay. When your showing work, and getting the right answer, and your work makes sense, you should get credit for it.</p>

I could really care less. my transcripts are already set for colleges, and my grade in the class doesn't matter for college credits (my grades a B anyhow now, so it'd be fine). I just need to get a C on the final to get my credits, and thats all I care about.</p>

What the fuck? What the hell kind of a calc teacher do you have that doesn't let you use derivatives? And that doesn't even know that's how you get the answers..?</p>

Dude, if I was in your position, I would definetly do something about this. So you should too. Either argue with your teacher and get her to change your grade, or go to the headmaster/principal and explain your case. Prepare your arguments well. You should never get punished for knowing "too much" or being more advanced than the other students. Unless the questions in the test specifically stated that you should solve a problem with a specific method, you have a rock-solid case.</p>

Its not necessarily rock-solid. The power-rule is more based on a shortcut, rather than the fundamentals of derivatives. Knowing the power-rule does not demonstrate a total understanding of calculus; understanding, and being able to calculate them the long way does. It was taught to me as the "delta method" but I've heard it go by different names.</p>

The response "you're not supposed to know that yet" is indeed a poor one, and you might have a shot if thats all the teacher can give. But as I said before, if I were the teacher I wouldn't change your grade because you have not demonstrated sufficient understanding of derivatives and their concepts.</p>

(Just a heads up you might want to consider. It never hurts to think two steps ahead)</p>

I just woke up and need to take an enormous poop, and right as I walked into the living room, I hear my roommate turn the shower on, as he's about to start showering. I don't know what I'm gonna do now, I might have to poop in a plastic bag or something.</p>

My calc teacher lives on the derivative rules, including the power rule. I didn't even realize there was any other way to find derivatives.</p>

Damn, really? See if its in your textbook. You probably will never have to use the convential method, but its good way to see what a deriviative actually is.</p>
