Ater starting the 2nd half with a 3 game sweep of the Reds to move to 3 games out of first place behind the O's,
Yanks were now facing the team with the worst record in league and lost the first game of a 4 game series.

Matt Thorton came in relief (6th inning), and gave up 2 hits to give the Rangers a 4-2 lead.......Yanks should release this stiff, he sucks.......oh, by the way....anyone still question whether the Yanks - OR ANY OTHER TEAM need an effective lefty to douse out good lefty hitters?
AND, prior to that the Yanks had bases loaded (bottom 5th)- one out with Jeter up...he promptly hit into a ground ball DP and killed the innning and ultimately the Yanks' chances of salting away a win to remain 3 games back- nope, Yanks lost a game in the standings while playing the worst team.

These are the little things which add up - I'm as big a Jeter fan as anyone, but this was a BIG GAME and you can't squander chances. The time is NOW -
Maybe The Captain should try and pull a pitch to left field ONCE and a WHILE? jeeeeez.... his exaggerated inside out swing and weak grounders to the right side are leaving a bad taste in mu mouth. SWING LIKE A MAN AND DRIVE A FEW LINE DRIVES TO LEFT FIELD for crissakes. Hey you never know, maybe a few could land over the fence for a HR. ugh

Quite honestly overall the entire offense is just incredibly weak. They're now 21st in MLB in runs scored and slugging percentage. Tex, Beltran and McCann have been complete disappointing voids. The Yankees desperately needed big seasons out of them and it hasn't happened. The bench is also incredibly weak as well. Perhaps upgrading with a bat at third or second spurs the others to get it going but who knows.
