I am the one calling dump a racist. He has had plenty of posts on the Rangers board referring to black NBA and NFL players as thugs and other dog-whistle terms to convince me.
We can leave politics out of it here. This is after all a hockey message board.

Interesting you said that 2009. I talked to my Russian friend a couple of days ago for the first time in a while. He left Russia 30 years ago. He said that this country is starting to remind him of Russia right before he left to come here. Like you, he loves this country and was jumping for joy to come here. Now, if that doesn't scare the crap out of you as an American I don't know what will. When people who left countries to escape Communism are starting to tell to people who were born here that this country is becoming like the country they left.

Yeah, absolutely agree. I experienced the end of Socialism during the 80s and early 90s, and now I am afraid we are experiencing the beginning of Socialism here in the US. Unfortunately, I know how it ends. But similarities are scary, we were afraid to speak our opinions back then, and now we experience a similar situation here. That's why I was triggered by Not Chuck's comments about my opinion on Quinn.

I like this board and enjoy reading everyone's posts, even Not Chuck's sometimes.

Being afraid to speak your opinion is not the same as not being allowed to speak your opinion. You are free to say most anything you want but, you also understand that not everyone is going to agree with you and sometimes speech has consequences. Thats called having a healthy society.
However, I am interested in the similarities you see between the USSR circa 1980s to what is happening in the US recently/today.

The other sad part 2009 is much like communist countries, teachers are teaching the youth total nonsense about politics. Educators foolishly believe the democrats will help them. Total nonsense. The teaching profession has gone to crap and for the most part it was under the Obama administration. As somebody who was in that profession for a while, if you are a republican or are at least somewhat in the center, you are spit on by the majority of teachers wherever you work if you believe anything republican. Essentially teachers when they are allowed will teach the youth that the government will take care of them and the rich are evil. Bunch of horseshit. The only one you can rely to take of you is yourself. The wealthy are the people that create jobs. Not people who are struggling for money. College professors are the worst. They go out of their way to brainwash the kids. In the lower grades you are strongly discouraged from talking politics. If you do, it's usually a recipe to get in trouble. In college, those scumbags are given freedom to brainwash their students.

So even though young people should be smarter on what is going on in this country with politics, to some extent they aren't to blame. They are being taught the wrong things by ignorant college professors who have no idea how a country should be run. I worked with a guy who said if you give me 10 minutes I will make you a democrat. I told him, no, you won't because I'm not stupid enough to get brainwashed like 50% of this country that has no problem with the government taking money out of my check and giving it to people who have no desire to work. He didn't like that. LOL.

Yup, college is a fucking disaster. Having an 8 and 5 year old worries me what kind of crap they will be taught by the time they get to college. Columbia Univ is having multile graduation ceremonies based on race, for example, and it's only going to get worse.

I’m all about balance Grevy - not destroying shit like Antifa and BLM . I also don’t like The Proud Boys or far righties either. I don’t like these people giving hormones to 3 year olds and trying to pick their gender identity. I’m smack in the middle. That’s my opinion of you don’t like it idk what to tell you but I’m going to stick to hockey here. Tortured existence? Only when it comes to the Rangers disappointing me my friend.

Yup, that is horrible the crap that is happening with kids. Read an article about a divorced dad who can't stop the mother from assisting their teenage child transition gender. May have gone to jail, i believe.

If you go on FB and look the gender option in your profile, it'll have "male", "female", "custom" as options. Disgraceful.

Haha, custom. 'Added the tech package in 2018'. lol

Just waiting for a couple of investments to pop. Then I'm out of this country which I loved but fully admit has become a shithole because of liberal whackos who want a communist country. I can get a t.v. package and watch the Rangers from another country. I figure the way things are going now, the crime rate will be up 20 to 25% nationally in about 4 years. No interest in staying here and dealing with that.

Grey, you asked what are the similarities between Soviet Russia, or perhaps today's Russia and the US in 2021. We no longer can speak freely in the US without facing some sort of consequence, and I don't mean saying something controversial. One can get canceled just for admitting that he/she voted for Trump. The difference is that you don't get arrested here, but you can get canceled. Yes, I am not a celebrity, so it is not like I will lose any endorsements, however, regular people can get canceled in this environment as well. It all depends on where you work and who your friends are. I don't post anything political on social media because you have no idea who will be searching through it in 10 years and then cancel us in retaliation for today's words. What we say today may not be "proper" in 10 years from now. I am not sure how this is a healthy society.

Another similarity is hypocrisy. In Russia, even as a child, I was able to pick up on hypocrisy, and nothing made sense. When I first came to the US it was refreshing how things just made sense, it used to be very logical. Today, things make sense less and less.

And I agree with dump and 31 in regards to kids. I don't care that much about my freedom, as much as kids. They are being brainwashed, similar to how we were brainwashed as kids in Russia. Kids have to go to college, but how to avoid the brainwashing there is a puzzle at the moment.

I appreciate you sharing that. I think you may be overstating the impact of being a Trump-voter though. There were 75m people who voted for him so "cancelling" (whatever that means) is not going to happen in almost every situation. However, being part of the attempted insurrection on January 6th is a whole different can o worms.
You have immeasurable freedoms in the US compared to Russia (regardless of what time frame we are talking about). However, I fully agree with you that the hypocrisy and frankly, cynicism in this country is maddeningly out of control. We are losing our integrity as a country and that is a serious issue.
My oldest is in kindergarten so I can't speak to any type of brainwashing going on with her at school at this point. However, she has been remote the entire school year and I have been working from home every day with her and I can say that their curriculum is pretty much what I would expect it to be. Math, reading, science and a bit of social studies all mixed in with proper social skills. No complaints from me so far.

Liberal pussies in this country have been trying to ruin this country since the Bush election controversy. Good thing we won't have the need to have a draft any longer for a war or we would get our asses kicked with the candyasses in this country at this point in time.

Grey, wait until kids go to middle school and then high school. That is when brainwashing starts and in college, it is the worst. It also depends on which part of NY you live in. On Long Island, it is not bad at all but in NYC it is definitely noticeable. Schools send out emails to parents and teaching kids about white privilege, white guilt and etc... My problem is not the existence of current critical race theory, some of the stuff that is presented today to us about the past is true, I get it and I can look at things with a nuance. My biggest issue is being judged based on outside factors, the way I look. Nobody knows how hard it was for me to achieve things in life, the fact that many started working at 15 years of age being an immigrant, and hear tons of rejection after college and etc. I didn't have any privilege but I have been told that because I am white and have blue eyes, things probably came easy, and nothing can be farther from the truth. Those are the resembles and experiences that I had in Russia, being judged by how I look or how I am seen by the "elite" or "Utopians". And the last thing I wanted to mention was the fucking lists. I knew about a black lists when I was 7 years old. That's the scary part. We escaped that shit, and now we hear of Progressives creating these lists. And I am not talking about putting politicians on the list who objected to Trump's election results in 2020, as troubling as that is, but I am talking about lists that some idiots within private companies now create if they suspect that you are a Republican or may have voted from Trump or for a Republican for that matter.

So, there are a lot of similarities and the scary part is it feels so familiar to me.

Thanks for sharing that 09. I am from here and also worked my azz off , eventually graduated law school and built a pretty successful practice in 5 years. My parents were great parents and we weren’t poor by any means but I had no financial backing. I did it all myself. To hear this white privileged, white guilt shit is ridiculous. Now, I can take a ride down 95-South to Westport, Darien, Greenwich, etc and find a whole lot of white privilege. When I started my Law practice I would go to the clients house to sign them up. I can’t tell you how many times I walked into a house with the thought of “am I being set up”. Fortunately that never happened. On the flip side, others in my position that I know it had a ton of financial backing and didn’t need to hit the pavement like me. I’m 5 years I’ve handled about 800 cases and have only been fired twice; once because the guy was a friend of mine that thought I wouldn’t work hard on his case (the lawyer he fired me for ended up blowing the statute of limitations for his case and committed malpractice) and the other one was a obsessive compulsive roid head that ended up calling me recently to transfer his file back to me because his lawyer never answers the phone. Black people have helped me So much while most whites people I know were just envious of what I was doing. I hate hearing generalizations about myself because it is all BS

A lot to unpack in this and subsequent posts. I don't want to draw this out into a whole big thing but, I fully recognize I asked you for more details and I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. I'll circle back shortly.

I had no idea that you went to law school! Don't take this the wrong way but, I would never have guessed you a lawyer just based off your posts (and your handle...ok, so he kept the shootout against the Caps alive when Malik won it with his between the legs miracle but, Jason Strudwick..."the best"? haha!).
What type of law do you practice? Where did your clients come from when you got your start?
