Not sure how much that adds though. Should be looking at

Winnik is not a scorer. Nor is he a 3rd liner. Nor is he a C strud. He is an ideal 4th line banger who can chip in with a goal here and there, and can bump up to the 3rd line for short stretches if needed.

He's not playing center this year on the leafs but he was a center for the Ducks, Sharks, and Yotes.. He's playing LW 2nd Line with the Leafs. I can see them trying him at C... Also averages playing over 15mins a game in his career

Hopefully he is come playoff time. I see your point though. Winnik-Moore-Stempniak would be a deep 4th line. Reserve the 3C for Vermette, Santorelli, or whoever

I am a firm believer that to win in the playoffs you need depth. 4 lines you can play. It is why I think we made the SCF last season, we had 4 lines rolling. It is why the Isles are ahead of us right now...their 4th line is very solid. Depth is huge in the playoffs.

To make it past the 1st round you need a very good top 6, that is a given for most teams, but what separates teams from there is depth. That is why I want Winnik on top of a guy like Sant for the 3rd line. He could complete the 4th line with Miller and Moore. And Stemp is good depth as well. And we can afford those guys and keep Stemp around for depth. Makes a lot of sense.

There's your duo Chuck. I've always liked Winnik as I've said in the past, and Santorelli is fine, but to land BOTH I think what we'll end up having to give is going to be close to what we'd have to give up to get Vermette. Now that the firesale is coming, theres going to be competition for Winnik and Santo. Why not make the Vermette move instead? If we get the TOR pair Stempniak is watching from the sky, and I think Vermette-Stempniak is a better depth pair than Santorelli-Winnik. Just my opinion.


Also a lot of buzz on O'Reilly, and that teams are worried giving up too much for him since he's been such a headache to get under contract in the past.

I rather get two guys than one guy. On top of that I believe Maloney will wait and wait up until almost the DL. I think you can deal with the Leafs now. And the cap situation is more difficult if we went after Vermette who has a 3.75 mill cap hit. Combined the Leafs duo is at 2.8 mill.

I believe a 2nd, McIlrath, mid-prospect, and maybe a 4th or 5th and you could get both guys from the Leafs.

That is not giving up a ton for us. McIlrath just doesn't have a home here, and if he does it is on the 3rd pair...big deal. A 2nd rounder is later in the 2nd round, plus we have two this year anyway with ours and TB's (deal the one that looks to be later...but both will be late 2nd). And then a 4th or 5th isn't a huge deal either way. Maybe we get back a 6th or 7th in exchange. And some mid-prospect that could go either way as a fringe NHL player. That is a good haul for the Leafs as well. Do it sooner rather than later so those guys get comfortable.

If you told me take that duo or get Vermette...I would take the duo. I really want Winnik for the 4th line. And Sant is fine for the 3rd line, plus I have this feeling we are getting Sant for sure, so I am kind of in the mindset of thinking Sant will come here, so get Winnik as well.

So I think here is what it comes down to for me personally.

1. I think Sant will be here. A ton of smoke about that, so I have kind of accepted it will happen.
2. I would like to add some size, toughness, and grit as well, and a guy like Winnik adds that to the 4th line (and he can bump up into the top 9 from time to time as well).

If we got a guy like Vermette, I think that is our move, and no grit is added.

For the record I do NOT think we get Winnik. I believe we get just Sant from the Leafs, and honestly that is not enough Glen.

I'm just not big on a guy like Tlusty. I think the top 6 is set. We need a 3rd line center.

I agree Chuck, I think they get Sant. Winnik is a guy we are advocating for but haven't heard anyone link the Rangers to him yet

I don't disagree. I would only give up one of our two late 2nd round picks for Santorelli AND Winnik.
