Rangers trade Hagelin, 59, 179 for Etem and 41

Not the biggest Etem guy but he's scorer everywhere on a high level other than the NHL. Maybe the playmaking centers of the Rangers can develop him. He'll also be a lot cheaper than Hagelin.

Gives them a little more juice around the net. Should be a 20g player here i would think.

Of course, all the NY haters now think Hagelin is great. He doesn't finish. Period. Great role player when he was cheap. at 3.5 he's not a great role player any longer. He's overpaid.

Hagelin is what he is and I've always said you can't have a team with both him and Zucc.

Maybe Etem finally breaks out here. He'll have lots of play making centers.

Made 900k for 3 years... RFA now, doesn't and shouldn't get a raise IMO ... So they save 2 mil + with this guy

Well, the Ducks were incompetent and rushed him. First, he should have never been brought up from the AHL after 16 points in 45 games. So, they were stupid there. Second, he's a PP scorer. The Ducks didn't use him in that role which is more stupidity. A guy like Etem with a world class shot will gain confidence on the PP. I'm sure AV will use him in that role. That's what he does. Third, he was getting 12 minutes of ice a night. He's a first round pick who had 60 goals in junior and 54 points in 50 AHL games two years ago and 21 points in 22 games last year. You don't play him 12 minutes if you want him to develop.

So, there is a lot wrong the Ducks did with this kid. So I can see why Slats rolled the dice on him. In a way, it reminded me of what Torts was doing with Kreider. Putting him in roles that made no sense and ruining his confidence. So, there is some hope with this move.

Yeah. Like I said, there is a lot to like as a gamble. In his last 72 AHL games he has 75 points. He didn't get any PP time for the most part and had 4th line minutes. Definitely an opportunity for the kid to break out here.

Plus, it wasn't lost on anybody with a clue that Fast showed he was a better player than Hagelin by a lot in the playoffs. Wonder if the imbecile Rangers fans and there were a lot of them who said Fast was useless learned something. You don't expect a kid to dominate the NHL as a rookie. It takes time.

To me Fast creates so much offense from his defense. He is a great penalty killer too..he played really well with Step and Kreider. I didn't like him at all on the 4th line.but grew to like him especially when Joe and Sam said at one point of the season no team scored on the PP when he was killing it

Moving Hags was the right move if he was being crazy on his contract demands. I wouldn't pay Hags more than 3 mill +/- per, and if he wanted 3.5 or more he had to go. I am a big Hags fan, he is a great PK guy, he is a solid 17 goal 35 point 3rd liner, but he is not a 3.5 or 4 mill player on this team.

What you can question is the return, but considering Hags was an RFA to be and wants good money, this was most likely the best we could do. Etem is bigger and could score 12 goals or so, and does have some upside. Plus we moved up 18 spots in the draft to the earlier 2nd round. And we saved 2/2.5 mill going from Hags to Etem, which was needed.

We need to add forwards though. If you look at our forward group we are very short up front. We need a R shot winger badly. We need to add fire-power for sure, because we are way short up front at the moment.

And for all the guys who love draft picks, today was a great day as we added a bunch of picks for Talbot and moved up by dealing Hags. We'll see if it pays off in 3 years or so.

I think the Can move was good as was the Hags move. To me, unless Zucc can't come back which it seems unlikely, Hags was totally expendable. Especially if he asked for over 3 a year. He has speed. That's it. Average hands. Average finishing skills. Average playmaking. He gets to the puck first and beats out icings, great. But when he gets the puck he doesn't do much with it. Better we traded him and got something for him than he walked away and we got nothing for him. Was happy to come check and see Sather's made those deals.

What if they add Stewart/Belesky, and Williams?

To me Williams is a guy that will come here and those big playoff goals will be a thing of the past... Belesky only had 1 good season and will get a moronic contract .. 22g and 10a, when I guy has those kind of numbers you just say the puck went in for him, like when Boyle scored 20+ goals.... Stewart, eh, maybe for the right price, he's a 3rd liner

It's tough to see Hagelin go, but this a decent trade. Etem is a left shot but plays the off-wing because he's a shoot-first player, just the kind of player this team has been lacking. He's bigger, younger and cheaper with WAY better hands. His a scorer first and formost. He isnt as fast as Hagelin (who is?), but he has great speed in his own right and will do great in AV's system as opposed to Big Bruce's out in ANH. As Dump said he was never a fit for that team.

Hagelin had reached his ceiling. We saw what he was. Etem is a bit more of a risk, but his upside is much higher than Hagelin's. Hagelin also was not great in terms of defensive positioning and IQ. He was fast as anything so he covered that up, but the fact remains that he was at times a liability in that department. Fast does those things way better, and Etem can give you offense that Hagelin can't. We'll see if this pans out.

Right now I see Etem on Hayes' right wing, with Miller on the left. I hope we can get another right handed shooter so Fast doesnt play top 6, but unless Klein is traded we wont have the space for it.

oh, and there's this

We need another top 6 winger. Fast should be on the 4th line. Etem the 3rd line. We need a top 6 R shot winger. That is what we have needed for a while. If we can add that we'll be in a good spot.

You can also say we need someone to win a faceoff. I like Lindberg here in the 4th line mix with Moore and Fast and Glass (he will be here). So adding another guy to win FO's is big, but may be a longshot if we want to add a top 6 R shot winger.

I'm putting Etem with Stepan. Period. Looks like they will keep Nash now.

Zucc-Brassard-Nash
Kreider-Stepan-Etem
Miller-Hayes-Fast
Hrvik-Moore-Lindberg

Freakin Glass better not be on this team next year.

I dont think it's at all possible to get 2 forwards. After the trades we have $58.1 on the books. That leaves $13.3M to sign Stepan, Etem, Miller, Fast, a 12th forward (Lindberg?), seventh D and a backup goalie.

Lets put Stepan in for 6, Miller Fast and Etem at roughly a combined 3.5, and 1m for a backup goalie. That's 10.5. 7th dman will run you about 700k. Lindberg at around 800k to play 4th line. Thats 12m, leaving 1.3m. That will never get you Beleskey or Williams. That may get you Stewart, and it's something we should look into.

We should also be sending Glass out but who knows if that will happen.

Those lines are simply not good enough dump. Having Etem and Fast in the top 9 isn't enough. And we still have no legit R shot scorer.

We need to keep our eyes on the prize, and no way is that a SC winning forward group...no shot.

And lastly I do not see Glass going anywhere...sadly...no one wants him. He wasn't packaged with Cam or Hags, and I don't see him getting moved.

If we're done making moves and this is the team next year, we REALLY need Kreider, Miller and Hayes to take the next step.

Even if they do Prod it isn't enough. Thankfully no shot those will be the lines, but if they were no shot we can win a cup. Let's not go backwards here.

He wasnt going to be moved draft day. Glass is due a roster bonus on July 1. His cap hit doesnt change but it's part of his contract. It's possible there's a cap-floor team out there willing to take the hit on but doesnt want to pay the bonus. He could be moved July 2.

I hope I am wrong, but I fully expect Glass to be here. Dump was hoping in every post that he would be packaged with Cam, which was not happening. I don't see him moved, but we can all hope I guess. Either way we have bigger things to focus on, like the top 6 R shot winger we badly need.

Unless Klein is moved (which nobody seems to want to do besides me), there is no space whatsoever for a top 6 right shot besides potentially Chris Stewart, and I'm not sure he's suited for that type of role anymore.

I don't care how they do it, all I know is those lines are not good enough to win a cup, that's the reality of it. If it means moving Klein, then they need to do it. I am fine with moving him IF it means we add the guy we need upfront, that has always been my stance on Klein. They have to add that guy IMO, no two ways about it.
