If Trump is (politically) smart, he won't name a Justice. He'll be getting tons of pressure to do so, though.

I think some of that is true

there were a lot of democrats (mostly anti-Hillary) who wanted Biden to run in 2016. If it had been Biden vs Trump in 2016, Biden would have won pretty easily IMO

but keep in mind that Clinton won popular vote by 3 million votes. She got 48.2% of the vote vs trump's 46.1%. And the math is that Biden needs to win the popular vote by 2.5-3% to win the electoral college. He might have to win by 4 million votes to squeak out a win in the electoral college. Why?...because the electoral college is an obsolete piece of shit mechanism that favors R's, rural states, and white people. it's an anachronism that needs to be chucked into the trash can of history

there was also the factor of Hillary's emails that the R's were able to elevate into a scandal that had no substance. And that was mainly due to the cooperation of clueless national media that never seems to gain a real perspective on it how destructive it's herd mentality is. And of course, James Comey launched a last minute torpedo at Clinton with his pronouncement

as for all the "great candidates" the D's didn't choose....who exactly? Don't say Elizabeth Warren, or Harris or Klobuchar because the D's can't win if their candidate is a woman, not after Hillary. That's not the way it should be but it's the way it is IMO. I don't even think the R's can win with a woman right now. Not in the USA.

if women are out, who did the D's have? Bernie Sanders and Pete Buttigieg? The socialist or the gay guy? Against trump? Good luck winning in the rust belt or Florida with those two.

after all the chatter about how the D's settled for the lesser candidate in Biden, it sure looks to me like they settled on the one with the best chance to win and election that's certain to be unfair in trump's favor

by the way, the under reported story of the 2016 election was Jill Stein and the Green Party. Their vote totals in the three states that swung the election were greater than the margin trump won by. And remember that dinner in Moscow that Michael Flynn attended? Jill Stein was there too. And the Green Party was just one more conduit that Russia used to divert votes from Clinton.
Even without the email deal there are many that didn't like her for various reasons. She lost WI,MI&PN. The 3 million vote deal was mainly CA & NY.
I think Cory Booker, EW or Amy would have beaten trump in 2016. I dont think Bernie would have beat trump though. Why were there really only three candidates representing the dems. Hell, I thought McNally would have beat would have beat Trump.

If Trump were smart (brain froze up there for a minute considering nasty things I could say about our fearless leader with an opening like that), he’d appoint Merrick Garland to the bench and then sit back and watch the libs chase their tails around trying to figure out what to do about that.

Unpopular take: she should've retired when Obama was still president. Hadn't she already had cancer? For Chrissakes Stephens retired and he's still kicking.

Not Merrick Garland perhaps but yes, a center-right (which is actually what Garland is, but because he was nominated by a Democrat he won't be seen that way) woman. And then threaten to nominate Tom Cotton if this pick isn't voted on before the election. There's nothing he can do to lose his base at this point, so why not win over some Susan Collins-type Repubs who are wavering.

McConnell will want to fill it just to pack the court as much as he can (and McConnell doesn't give a shit about Trump, he just wants a packed court). Whereas Trump might prefer to keep it open to really motivate the base to come out.

Stacking the courts is the big win for the GOP under Trump...it's the one thing they swayed in their favor but the cost to the party to achieve this has been substantial. They might lose the Senate and presidency because of it.

Ginsburg thought Hillary Clinton would be elected and wanted her replacement chosen by first female president.

so anyone else excited for the supreme court to decide the next presidency? me too

That is exactly why Trump going forward with naming a nominee.

But, Biden is going to beat his ass so bad it won't matter

Not sure if this has been mentioned or not, but if another conservative is pushed through before the election, and if the Dems end up controlling both the House and Senate, the number of SC judges will then possibly go up from 9 to 11.

Yep. Dems will get rid of the filibuster and increase the size of the SC from 9 judges to 11 or maybe even 13. Only if Biden wins though

RBG can never truly be replaced. Any nominee that Trump "replaces" her with will be nothing more than a pimple on RBG's ass.

CC, though I generally lean towards the conservative on some issues, RBG was truly unique in my mind and though she was more liberal, if there were 9 RBGs on the SC this country would have a much better moral/legal compass.

I think the SC should always have equal rep Dem, Rep & Others

And if the Dems win the House and Senate but Trump is re-elected he will be a 4 year "lame duck" POTUS...and will likely be pushed out of office.
