I gave you one example. Mook is being hurt by paying double taxes.

Tough to sell those government motors cars overseas if they have trouble finding sales guys to send overseas.

Seriously doubt American car salesmen would be at all useful overseas. Plus, of course, the car salesmen here don't work for GM. But hey, nice example.

They also want to hire in house much the same as we do here. Part of this is to make hiring a citizen attractive to foreign investors. I've never been to or worked in Europe and I'm sure it's an expensive place to live but we don't really hire Japanese salesmen to work selling Hondas here after all

According to conservatives, citizenship renouncers are traitors during Republican administrations, and merely harassed taxpayers during Democratic administrations.

Actually, the only time in American history when emigration exceeded immigration was in the Depression, to the new Soviet Union and other countries protected from the worldwide Depression. I've read that many times for decades.

FWIW, there are 7.6 million american citizens living abroad.

I'm not talking about the guy who sells cars at the car lots. I'm talking about the guy who sells tens of thousands of cars to all the dealers there.

Just a note on this subject, My friend's son works for a huge computer corporation in the Bay area and travels to sell tens of thousands of units in asia but has no need to reside there. Does the job once every couple of months and most of his work is handled via Skype, etc...wouldn't it be in your friend's best interest to just travel when it was necessary instead of paying expat taxes?

I had no idea there were that many of us. Still, only 3,000 gave up citizenship, so I guess it can't be that bad.....I hope. Waiting to see what my tax bills will be like.

3,000 a year over 10 years is 30,000. Is that a bigger number? More meaningful? :)

Has there been anyone who renounced their citizenship while working overseas and then became a citizen again after retiring (back in the States)? I wonder how much luck you would have at trying that.

3,000 per year over 100,000 years is 300 million, which is the entire population of the US! There will be no one left!

How about if we all pay our taxes 100,000 years from now?

Lee Harvey Oswald did it, defected to Russia then came back to the States and regained his citizenship

I have no problem with any folks who want to emmigrate to another country. I have serious doubts that the govt here could trace Chinese assets from expats though with the exception of Hong Kong. Especially through small local banks where english is non existant and an abacus is the calculator.

Over 40, 000 American Military Servicemen have denounced their citizenship since the year 2000. Although nearly all of them were working abroad, taxes played no part in their decision.

3, 000 is a 2 day supply of illegal immigrants from mexico, and everybody says they are hard workers who know their place and keep their mouth shut.

I'm at a loss as to why you don't like this swap.
