I was okay with Wesley's large contract last year because he seemed like a great piece to puzzle -- hungry bench player, capable of finishing in traffic, knocking down open 3's, and playing lock-down defense. But nearly every aspect of his game has deteriorated this year and we're stuck with 3 more years of his deal. The bottom line is he's a bench player, not part of a core. He can't create his own shot, has no dribbling ability at all, and for whatever reason, completely forget how to finish in traffic.
His passion for the game and determination to win are two things going for him, and quite frankly, I wish more players took his mental approach to the game. But with Elliot laying in the wings and a plethora of shooting guards available in the draft, I just don't see a spot for Matthews.
