OT Report: Jimmy Butler rejects Minnesota Timberwolves' max extension offer

How can you turn down a 100M? Life must be hard that 100M is not enough.

Gotta be able to feed the kids.

He will get the money from somewhere else that he feels is more competitive.

That's what everyone thought about Paul George though.

If you read the non-ESPN spun up BS, Paul George has always said he wants to win above all else. He has always had a good attitude.

Butler, on the other hand, has been cited as having issues with teammates and plays with a chip on his shoulder due to being ignored for so long. So, there's a difference.

Blazers should try to get him but trading CJ for him would be a lateral move.

He can't feed the kids with $110 million?

Except for the part where he fucked a teammates girlfriend and basically killed that playoff team :dunno:

Hahahahah I totally forgot about this. Those Pacers teams were good! And we almost had Hibbert! Time flies.

CJ for Butler straight up... Yes or No?

I would want to know Dame's vote. Not that he would say publicly, but his chemistry with Butler seems like it would be a gigantic factor on whether Butler resigns......seeing that he really has not had good chemistry in his last two stops.

To me market size is not the issue with Jimmy but Dame, Nurk, Collins, Baldwin. Harkless, and Aminu might. They seem to be pretty hard working guys, so he might like it.

He needs a lot of money because he spends a lot if money. Poor guy is probably barely breaking even. Where's your compassion, man?

Not if he's a team chemistry killer

Sounds like he doesn't like playing with people who are lazy, or unprofessional, or immature. Outside of Leonard, who on the Blazers fit that mold? Harkless maybe?

As long as he and Dame are good, having a locker-room enforcer might be kind of nice. This team could use a little more of an edge.

So I have two questions:

1. How much does this damage Butler's trade value? People know they're going to be in a trade or lose for nothing scenario.

2. Can we somehow get Butler without giving up CJ? I'm still in favor of moving CJ, but if we could get Butler without giving up CJ, maybe we could still use CJ to pry away Kawhi.

Also, in my scenario, I'd move Dame to shooting guard. He's actually significantly more efficient as a shooting guard.
Uh, the only times I remember Dame as a SG was when ET was facilitating the offense. Never when CJ was on the court. So are you saying ET does a fine job as the PG, because many in here think he sucks, me excluded. Dame is an outstanding PG., and Way better at that position IMO.

As long as we have actual proof Neil did something to try to get him....

With many fans, just a thread where they came up with a trade that might actually work under salary cap rules, constitutes Neil doing something.

It's not just this season. Dame is extremely efficient in catch and shoot situations. When he's in a rhythm he's extremely accurate.

Edit - this was a reply to tykendo

Pretty sure Jimmy and Kyrie are trying to eventually team up and if so in New York. That's the rumor at least, forgot where I heard it.

Butler obviously could be kidding or laughing at the comment, considering he also liked several other comments in that post. However, he and Kyrie Irving have the potential to become free agents after this season. Butler has a player option next offseason on the final year of his five-year, $92.3 million deal while Irving also has the ability to opt out of the last year of his five-year, $94.3 million contract.

A report from Joe Cowley of the Chicago-Sun Times last week did suggest that Butler and Irving are looking for a way to play together.

Irving has already said he will not sign an extension with the Celtics this summer, but that does not necessarily mean he is done in Boston. By waiting an extra year, he could make more money by signing an extension after another year of the salary cap rising. He could also make more money than on his current deal by opting for unrestricted free agency next summer.

Waiting to sign an extension could be risky though, as Irving has an injury history that has resulted in 59 missed games over the last three seasons.

Meanwhile, Butler is reportedly unhappy with the attitude of the Timberwolves' Karl-Anthony Towns, as Cowley wrote in the same article.

Both are elite guards who each averaged at least 20 points in four of the last five seasons. Should they join the Knicks, they would form one of the strongest cores in the Eastern Conference along with Kristaps Porzingis and Kevin Knox, who is looking like a steal with his play in NBA Summer League.

That last part is the saddest thing I've ever read.

Butler can get 4/140 from another team or 5/180 from the Wolves next summer.

Why take 4/110 now?

That's the reason. Plain and Simple. He may not like KAT but there is no reason to take this offer now when he gets so much more later.

Only 55M after taxes. If he has no non-basketball skills, he has to divide that among the 50 years hopefully left in his life. So it's not too much if he's not careful with his money NOW.

Oh 10% to his agent too.

I don't really want Butler. Not a fan of his attitude and this will be his third team in as many years. It's also very clear that he wants to play in a big market with Kyrie. PASS.
Gotta take the chance if it makes us better. I'd give up CJ, but it would be awesome if we didn't have to. We could hang with the Warriors if Neil could make that happen.
