OT Report: Jimmy Butler rejects Minnesota Timberwolves' max extension offer

Welcome to our community

Only 55M after taxes. If he has no non-basketball skills, he has to divide that among the 50 years hopefully left in his life. So it's not too much if he's not careful with his money NOW.

Oh 10% to his agent too.

Oh no poverty!!!!
Living off 55mil for the next 50 years.
Oh the humanity. Need to start a gofundmepage for this man. 55mil is not enough for anyone! He'd be homeless!

Gotta take the chance if it makes us better. I'd give up CJ, but it would be awesome if we didn't have to. We could hang with the Warriors if Neil could make that happen.

I only give up Collins or CJ if he signs the extension. One year rental. No thanks.

There is absolutely no way Butler would accept an extension now. He'd be leaving $30-$70 million on the table. It's not even worth discussing.

Well a promise then lol

He's not going to promise either. We have to show him this is the best place for him. We have to convince him to sign.

It sucks, but this kind of situation is probably the most likely way for us to add the 3rd star we'll need to compete with Golden State for the next few years.

Not if he's a team chemistry killer
A theory based on nothing is that he is a "bad chemistry" guy because no one on Minny plays defense.

If my theory is correct, he wouldn't have that problem here.

I think the end result is losing CJ and Butler and being left with one star lol.

He might be able to get 14o next summer (I don't even pretend to know about which teams have cap space next year), he might not.

he might be able to get 180 million from Minnesota, but there might not be as many suitors next year he can use as leverage.

I think our players and management should know the answer to that so I'll trust their judgment

They'll never know without trying it. We're Tier2. Butler for CJ would make us Tier 1. Why? Butler, Nurk, Collins, Baldwin, Aminu make us an elite defensive team. Lillard and Butler make us a very powerful team. Surrounding those guys with shooters makes us crazy good..

But yes, it'd be a risk. He could walk away. If he stays? We in luxury tax 4ever. Those are the lumps you've got to take if you want any realistic hope of a championship, IMHO.

So I have two questions:

1. How much does this damage Butler's trade value? People know they're going to be in a trade or lose for nothing scenario.

2. Can we somehow get Butler without giving up CJ? I'm still in favor of moving CJ, but if we could get Butler without giving up CJ, maybe we could still use CJ to pry away Kawhi.

Also, in my scenario, I'd move Dame to shooting guard. He's actually significantly more efficient as a shooting guard.

I wanted Dame to play more 2 for years. That's why I always wanted us to have a good (or any) backup PG

Eric you're really a joke sometimes.
I liked this even though it was kinda mean. Unless you mean he's a comic which he was surprisingly good at. I guess that's kind of a backhanded compliment but I remember scoffing at the idea of him being a conedian. (Should have remembered Amy Schumer at the time)

I actually think that’s too much considering butler openly wants out and thibs openly values Turner.

I say turner/harkless/swannigan/first

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

You weren't serious, were you?

Interesting. That is a ballsy move by a guy who has often misses 15-20 games a year. Looks to me like he wants out NOW. I would think the Lakers if it wasn't for the fact he is great friends with Kyrie.

Yeah, rumor has it that Kyrie and Butler want to hook up on the same team.

Standard agent fee in the NBA is 4%, unless you are Dirk, who never had an agent.

CJ and Turner for Butler and Dieng would work and also cut $7M off the cap for the Blazers. I don't like Dieng's contract but I don't like Turner's either.

Turner only has one more year after this coming season where as Dieng has 2 more years with the last one at $17+ mil. His contract is horrible.
