Williams has reportedly told his reps to tell teams that call on July 1 that he is only signing with the Nets or Mavs.

There goes that dream.

Nooooooooooo!

But... but... but I've already saved my spot at Pioneer Courthouse Square for the welcoming rally.

Why would he want to kill the competition like that? Should be better for him if people complete for his services, even if he doesn't actually want to sign with them. Dallas doesn't even have much cap room do they?

The dream is..............dead

Was it ever really alive?

Also, I guess this begs the question, in three years does LaMarcus join Dwight Howard and D-Will in Dallas to form a second "super team?"

Assuming the report is true - which is hard to tell because there is no statement from Deron himself - this is something of good news.

It brings clarity for the Blazers.

They can go straight for Plan B.

I posted a while back, that I felt the Blazers were in a position with the team they have (unless they won the #1 pick in the lottery), that using this summer's cap space to sign the very best unrestricted free agent available, Deron Williams, who happens to be at a position of extreme need, was the only real chance the team had for a Quick ReTool.

There is no other path for a quick retool that will vault the team into legit Conference Final contender status (a top 4 Western Conference team).

If Paul Allen hadn't had his brush with death, he might be more willing to face this truth and consider trading LaMarcus for picks or younger players.

I think they will try to craft a two year plan to retool and hope that the team improves enough so LaMarcus will resign when his current contract expires. I think it will unlikely that the team can get real good in that time frame.

How exactly is Dallas affording him?

probably the same way james/bosh ended up in miami, sign and trade. i'm not sure how they are going to afford dwill/howard/aldridge like someone else mentioned though. i would think the new cba has put an end to these kind of teams. though if any owner will take on the severe penalties i guess it would be Cuban.

well if this isn't proof that Paul Allen is selling the team, I don't know what is.

signed,

John Canzano

Dallas.......

I'm going to laugh if he does sign with Dallas. That team will completely suck. It will be Dirk and Deron. That's it.

There are links, but just rumor and not directly from him. It doesn't make sense for 2 reasons:

Why would he want to kill the competition like that? Should be better for him if people complete for his services, even if he doesn't actually want to sign with them. Dallas doesn't even have much cap room do they?

Dirk is going to be 34, if he's about winning like he claims Dallas should be very low on the totem pole.

I just don't understand why Deron would want to waste his best years on a shit team like NJ or an old team that won't even have Dirk in a few years. I understand if he doesn't want to sign with us, but there have to be better options out there.

He's from Dallas and he has confidence that big spender Cuban will keep the team a winner. But there is no reason to show his cards and decrease his offer...except...He's an iconoclast in that he sincerely says he's not after the biggest, most glamorous city, so more power to him for not being so materialistic.

Maybe he'll hold the fort down until LMA is able to join him?

Apparently they've talked about joining up in Dallas, not Portland.

Why do we even want Williams when we can sign Felton for a lot less?
