Republican Richardson wins Independent Party nomination over Kitzhaber for Governor

Republican Dennis Richardson won the Independent Party nomination in the Oregon governor's race, allowing him to add the party's endorsement on the November ballot.

Richardson, a state representative who defeated Democratic Gov. John Kitzhaber in an Independent Party primary conducted partly over the Internet, led a Republican sweep of races that featured both Democratic and GOP candidates.

Are we going to have a republican governor? Given Kitzhaber performance with Cover Oregon, I think it's time.

Interesting (and saddening), last time Oregon had a Republican governor was Vic Atiyeh, who just died last night at the age of 91.

I would encourage everyone to vote in this upcoming election . . . there is a lot on the line for Oregonians.

Oregon won't see another Republican governor unless we go bankrupt. Even then, it's a long shot.

I don't know much about him, but plan on reading a little about his views.

I'm not a fan of Kitzhaber and wonder if this election will be more about voting the one I dislike the least. I hate when it comes down to that for me.

If ever a republican will win the gov's office, this is the time. Kitzy has fallen asleep at the switch and the near 3/4 of a billion dollars of taxpayer money squandered on bad investments, the CRC fiasco and Cover Oregon makes him pretty weak.

All that said, I see Kitzy winning with 56%.

Cover Oregon is definitely Kitzhaber's responsibility.

I'm not sure how the CRC is his fault, though? I do blame him a bit for supporting it, but it wasn't his doing that it got started, and it wasn't his doing that it died.

If you are talking about the College Savings Plan losses, that took place in 2008/9, well before Kitzhaber took office.

Not really, it depends on what the other option is.

The governor did not do a good job (IMO), but will the alternative do a worse job or hurt Oregon more?

I don't think people took Dudley seriously and Oregon is a democratic state.

Kithaber may be to Oregon what Bush was to the US (as Chris Rock said Bush was so bad the country was ready to elect a black man ). Did Kitzhaber screw up so bad the state is ready to elect a republican governor?

This guy sounds like a kook on some issues too. That's why i was so mad when Dudley lost, he came across as a Republican that wasn't completely nuts. Where are all the Jon Huntsmans?

I dunno about that. An anti-abortion, anti-gay rights guy with 9 kids from Southern Oregon who looks like John McCain... somehow I don't see it happening. But stranger things have happened.
