Requiem For A Dream

I just saw this for the first time the other day and it was, if nothing else, weird. I heard alot of good things about the movie and I agree it was very unusual and powerful. Something about it just made me glued to the set, and I don't really know what it is to be honest. I think it may be the score that plays alot, "Lux Aeterna". It is definitely the perfect music to play along with the movie as it gets more intense as a scene goes on.

Anyways, who's seen it/a fan/hates it/has other ideas why it's so good?

I'm a fan of this movie as well. Bought the DVD once it came out. Definitely a powerful movie, the acting was great (Marlon Wayans proved me wrong and played the role very well), and it had one of the best scores i've ever heard.

If you liked this movie, you should also check out "21 Grams".

This is a movie based on my life....lol, nah but I actually kinda enjoyed this movie (when I saw a few years back), the guy who made this also made "pi", so you might want to check that out also.

I loved the movie, and have seen "pi" and "21 grams." Daron Aronofsky (the director) is coming out with an amazing looking movie called "The Fountain." It is about the fountain of youth, and looks freaking awesome.

This movie is not a realistic portrayal of drug use. I'm sorry to burst you all's bubbles, but this is just Hollywood crap. It's somewhat entertaining, and Connelly is hot, but it's not profound at all.

are you crazy it's hardly a HOllywood movie at all - the movie's vibe is so indie, it's not even funny. Hollywood does NOT make movies this bleak or stylized.

It's pretentious without warrant, without substance

The acting is not good-- the casting calls for attractive, young people, regardless of talent.

The soundtrack is good, but still is overbearing to the point that it's almost indicating how you're supposed to feel regarding the scene.

Real-life situations hyperbolized to the point of being contrived

Failed attempt at being didactic? Is that why the film is regularly shown at drug rehabilitation clinics to recovering addicts? After watching that film, I will never touch such drugs.

Bad acting? Is that why Burstyn was nominated at the Acadaemy Awards in 2000 for Best actress? Stop stating you opinion as if it's fact. I felt that the movie was not at all "hollywoodized" and that the film has MAJOR substance.

I also thought it had an amazing soundtrack, and apparently I am not alone as it has been voted among some of the best movie soundtracks ever on many internet websites, as well as it has been sampled by many artists. Indicating how you are supposed to feel and blending with the movies scenes is what a soundtrack is supposed to do. When and how did the movie act pretentious? Quit your blabberin.

And unless you have been addicted to heroine, and spent time in a rehabilitation clinic, don't speak about it being hyperbolized (this means exaggerated, but he's attemping to sound intelligent by using big words, thus creating the illusion that his opinion is fact and that everyone should agree with it). Besides, most movies are exaggerated to some extent, that's what makes them exciting, and it gets the point across quicker. Maybe they should have been addicted to sugar instead? Withdrawals from that stuff will probably be a little easier to swallow. I've had friends become addicted to hard drugs, and the result is not pretty.

This movie was powerful and had an impact on me. It is definetely one of my favorites.

I don't really feel like typing up something long (many know why), but saying a movie is unbelievable and that it is hyperbolized is hypocritical in the mildest sense. Don't you watch a movie to suspend disbelief? And if that were not so, you must not like 90% of the movies ever made, Chuck.
