The first concert I ever attended was when I was a young kitten and my parents took the entire family to hear Harry Belafonte.

Award winning actor and singer with a long list of "firsts".

One of his early movies was banned in many states because it depicted interracial romance.

A close friend and associate of Martin Luther King, Belafonte spoke at the March on Washington and organized other celebrities such as Sidney Poitier and Paul Newman. He several times bailed out King and other civil rights leaders.

He was the first solo artist to have a million selling album.

He subbed for Johnny Carson for a week, interviewing celebrities but also King and Robert Kennedy, a few months before both were assassinated.

Well into his 80s he participated in sit ins protesting murder of Trayvon Martin and the Women's March.

Daylight come and it's time to go home.
Rest in power.

Why do you want him to struggle? He seemed like an amazing man.

Everyone likes a little ass. No one likes a smartass.

RIP Harry. The world is a darker place with you not in it. Hopefully, your music and your legacy will continue to inspire and bring light.

He was a great man! RIP! Daylight comin' and me want to go home!

Screw you bro! I was curious why she wanted him to struggle while resting. I’ve never heard that saying before. In case you missed the first time, screw you
I hope he rests in peace.

RIP Harry Belafonte!
Great memories of him in all sorts of movies and tv shows.
Kept himself in great shape always!

Born in Harlem in 1927. Talk about seeing the world radically change your lifetime.

Harry was a really important figure in the civil rights movement ..he lived an incredible life amongst incredible people like Martin Luther King Jr and Langston Hughes...had a voice like Same Cooke and opened the door for black actors like Sidney Poitier and Morgan Freeman. What a life he led!

In the 1960s he did television program with British pop star Petula Clark. At one point in the show, Clark put her hand on Belafonte's arm. Producers said they should redo that segment. Both refused. Yes, it was controversial. A white woman touched a Black man.
