The first concert I ever attended was when I was a young kitten and my parents took the entire family to hear Harry Belafonte.
Award winning actor and singer with a long list of "firsts".
One of his early movies was banned in many states because it depicted interracial romance.
A close friend and associate of Martin Luther King, Belafonte spoke at the March on Washington and organized other celebrities such as Sidney Poitier and Paul Newman. He several times bailed out King and other civil rights leaders.
He was the first solo artist to have a million selling album.
He subbed for Johnny Carson for a week, interviewing celebrities but also King and Robert Kennedy, a few months before both were assassinated.
Well into his 80s he participated in sit ins protesting murder of Trayvon Martin and the Women's March.
Daylight come and it's time to go home.
Rest in power.
