Has the Blazers' first 10 games changed your expectations for the remainder of the season?

I figured you didn't have much confidence in your prediction.

Who said that? Not me.
I have a lot of confidence in my prediction, lol. I put $100 on winning the title! Why must I bet $200? Do you think I have to bet everyone in this thread to prove I’m confident? Also- I’ve placed a bet here before and didn’t get paid so why should I trust you? And you specifically said we celebrate if we finish between 1 and 7. You made no mention of celebrating if we finish #1. It’s all good though. My money is where my mouth is at Wynn where I’m guaranteed to be paid.

You are predicting the Blazers to win the conference, so you might want to hold off on calling someone elses prediction crazy.

Here's the bet: If the Blazers win the conference, I owe you $100. If the Blazers finish outside the top 6, you owe me $100. If the Blazers finish in-between, we celebrate a successful season!

No, you do not have to back up your crazy prediction with a bet. But given that you called mine crazy, I thought you would gladly take a risk free bet, if you believed it.

If you were right about all your predictions, we'd have a few undefeated seasons, 10+ championships, and be considered the best sports franchise in the world. I mean this 100%: I wish you right, just once.

If you are predicting anything less than 82-0 at this point, you aren't a real fan.

I’ve never predicted an undefeated season or even a championship. This is the first time I’ve bet on it. But a bet and a prediction are two different things. I’m not on record saying we’ll win it all but I placed the bet because if we DO win, it’ll be even more fun. I didn’t even predict title in early 90s. I did think we’d win the Pistons series after splitting the first 2 games in Detroit. That’s the closest we’ve ever been in my opinion. I’m not convinced we beat Pacers in 2000. We had no chance against Bulls in 92. MAYBE in 91.

Wait... so you think this team will win a championship, but you're not convinced the 2000 team was better than the Pacers? That series wouldn't have made it 6 games.

Yeah, my opinion of how this team will do has changed. I thought we'd win 46 games and be a play in team. Now I think we win 50 but I don't think that will be enough for HCA. So I think we'll be a 5th or 6th seed.

57 wins 25 losses, which assumes staying on the present 70% line

That should be good for 3rd or 4th.

57 wins will be a 1 or 2 seed in my opinion.

Highly unlikely we keep winning every one-possession game throughout the season though.

You really think there are 6 or 7 teams better than us in the West? That’s crazy. I know it’s early but we are clearly better than most of the West. Curious, do you think the Warriors will pass us eventually? I assume you had them ahead of us. What about the Clippers? Without Kawhi, are they better than us? Wolves don’t work. Pelicans are a mess. Jazz will fall off. I think top 4, in no particular order, are Portland, Phoenix, Dallas, and Denver with Memphis knocking on the door. We’ll learn more in the coming weeks. It’s shaping up to be a fun season league wide. In East, I think Hawks are the favs but Bucks and Celtics are right behind them. Cavs and Mitchell still have a lot to prove.
This is our year to win it all

They are outperforming expectations on the early schedule sufficiently that there might be some serious separation that starts to happen. But then the 00-01 season happened. So while I've gone from play in, maybe 6th to 5-6 maybe HCA, I'll not fret about it too much.

We’ll never know. The 2000 team had no leader.

We are currently on pace to win 61 games actually. And that’s good for #1.

Suns were 33-9 in clutch games last season. So it can be done.

The 00-01 team had no leader. It was a mess of a team. Sheed was the A level talent but he win a title until playing with, you guessed it, a real leader in Chauncey Billups.

Regular season records dont really mean much, aside from being a barometer. That's why chauncy is being cautious with injuries.

Portland is way better than I expected. The win last night on the road, on a back-to-back, against CJ, and without Dame/Nurk/Sharpe, really raised the potential for these guys in my mind.

In 2020, the Suns were coming off a 34 win season. Most people had them as a fringe playoff team, best case scenario.

Their win/loss record since then? .708, .780 and now .727 this year.

Their draft picks started producing in games, they made a key acquisition (Chris Paul), and the pieces just fit much better around their franchise player.

Doesn't all of that sound kind of familiar? I'm not sticking my neck out and saying we're going to go on a .708 tear (that's 57 wins), but 52 definitely seems reasonable.

there was an article (or maybe reddit thread or something) a few years back that showed how predictive early season records were of the final records. but it had mentioned a threshold of games.

it showed a bunch of previous years about how the standings on a certain date in december/january almost perfectly modeled the final standings.

can anyone recall this article?

100% it can be done. The probability is low, but it's not impossible. Heck, going 79-3 can be done. Also, finishing 10-72 can be done. I don't think either are likely.

I 100% want it to continue and will be rooting for it!

I thought Pippen was well respected, but the term leader is tough to define and prove, so I guess this is just a matter of opinion.

I'm far more of pessimist than you and I thought/think that 2000 team was going to roll the Pacers just like the Lakers did.

also fun fact, the 13-14 team started out 17-3.

we thought that was gonna be our year until wes tore his achilles.
