Rich Cho out as GM!

When KP was fired, there was an argument made that no GMs will want to work with PA. Shortly thereafter, Cho was hired.

Now I'm reading the same concerns with the Cho firing. This may be a ownership issue, but I doubt they will have a problem getting a quality GM to replace Cho.

Apparently, they had trouble getting a quality GM to replace KP, as evidenced by Cho's short tenure. Why would it be any easier for them now?

I think Larry's connection to MJ is what got us Gerald!

So, totally absent any inside information about whether Cho's been doing a good job, has the respect of ownership and the players, what his involvement in the Wallace trade really was, etc., you're comfortable in saying that firing him is a mistake?

You tell me.

This just in from twitter:

Apparently he went from genius to moron in a month.

Hilarious. What changed so quickly?

Damn it, 1 minute too slow!

does anyone know what PA wrote in "Idea Man" about Cho, by any chance?

[/facepalm]

If it's not one thing (usually being Greg Oden) it's another. Can this fanbase get a break from all this drama?!

Rep me!

It's not that he is or isn't a good GM, it's that he only got 1/2 a year to prove himself. Just odd. Hopefully Buchanan is offered, or they already have someone in mind that is a proven GM that they know will take the job. My guess is that the front office thinks more highly of this team than he did though. That sucks. More 1st round exits

I agree. While I think the praise for Cho has been a bit over-the-top, my only two complaints about him were not having a back-up PG this season, and also not offering Oden an extension last summer. Perhaps Conley Sr. let the Blazers know that Oden will accept the Q.O.? Either that, or they really do feel insulted by not getting that extension, but will go to RFA is they don't have to deal with Cho.

Another part of me thinks that Cho probably said screw it when he was overruled on Roy, and Roy then went on to help the Blazers win two games.

thank you for this! I was looking for it everywhere! (Must Spread Rep Around)

The good news is the press conference at 4pm will be broadcast in FM.

So, between the time his book was written last year and the time it was released in April Paul Allen has changed his mind about Cho. Neither one of us has any clue as to why that is the case. Absent that, we're both talking out of our backsides, which is something that's not exactly unusual around here.

I'm fully comfortable saying that Allen/Vulcan appear to be completely erratic, that's been true for years and this lastest only reinforces that impression ... whether or not Cho did anything that was "firable"

I doubt anything will be broke on courtside tonight, but it will be interesting to see Rice come up with some crazy conspiracy!

Jason Quick: "From a leaguewide perspective, Portland is a rudderless organization."

I think it's more of a Roy v. Cho situation, rather than a Warren LeGarie ultimatum

Roy = 72M in costs. Cho...maybe 2M? Roy's way or the highway.

Buchanan and Born have my confidence in the draft/FA.
Of course, Roy has been the GM and part time head coach since before he wrote and directed the Blazers to sign his own max contract. :)

With B-Roy back the helm I for one would like to welcome back Steve Blake and Travis Outlaw to the team.

I bet Paul found out Cho had an iPhone!

Maybe that's the plan--Roy retires as a player and is hired as GM, retaining his $14M salary. BRILLIANT!
