Rich Cho out as GM!

This could equally well work out to be the best day in recent Blazers history. But, if you're really enjoying the freakout, I'm sorry if I disrupted you.

I don't think anyone's freaking out. I think the Blazers either doing something stupid now or else admitting they did something stupid last year is significant news and bad news. Having a largely negative thread about this significant and bad news seems appropriate.

What makes you think I'm complaining about that fact? After a dozen years or so on message boards, I think I have a pretty good handle on the dynamics involved. I was just noting for the record that nobody here has a good idea as to what the real facts are and that absent that, it's pretty hard for me to jump on the "OH MY GOD, THE BLAZERS ARE TOTALLY INCOMPETENT CLOWNS BECAUSE THEY FIRED CHO" bandwagon. This could equally well work out to be the best day in recent Blazers history. But, if you're really enjoying the freakout, I'm sorry if I disrupted you.

I'm pretty sure he's criticizing others for acting like experts when we don't have all the facts, not criticizing you for being measured with your response...

anyone remember who were the GM candidates before cho was hired?

Randy Pfund and Danny Ferry. You know, the cream of the crop.

Fuck, at this point we'd be turned down by John Nash.

With all of this rapid firing/hiring and contract issues, the Blazers front office is making themselves look like a joke.

GM's, players, and agents will be hesitant to select Portland as a destination.

Is that why he got suspended?

Yes. And because some people here kept attacking him about things until he snapped and got banned.

He didn't really even snap, though. He simply went along with a Smoky and the Bandit analogy that somebody (NateBishop?) offered up, and then that poster used it as evidence of MIXUM's "schtick" so to speak.

Except that Al Davis won 3 Super Bowls and went to a 4th.

There are two versions of Al Davis, the sixties visionary and the 1990's, 2000's guy that is still stuck in the sixties.

**shrug**

What's done is done.

From maxiep's Twitter:

Blazers fans, in a release announcing fan's split w/ Paul Allen: "This decision, as difficult as it was to make, reflects our willingness to admit and recognize that things haven't worked out. We're going to be tough on ourselves in assessing what we could have done better, and then go out and find the owner who is the best fit with the needs of our franchise. That chemistry and connection is critically important..."

Fixed.

This job will go to 1 of two people. Buchanan or Nate in the Popovich way.

The good news is that Portland is finally finding a way to make headlines after the first round of the playoffs

Note to next Blazer GM:

Hangup if someone named ABM calls you up for a Meet and Greet.

Well this sucks. I was hoping we would have a very active draft. With this curve ball, I doubt anything will be happening on draft night.

Make Nate GM in the same way that McHale was made coach in Minnesota. Owner there told him look, if you want someone to win with this roster you assembled, you try it. So why not say to Nate if you aren't happy with the pieces you have o work with(to be fair, I am not either), go get the pieces you need to succeed as coach yourself. Eliminate excuses. Can't succeed with your own guys, you're out.

because KP just happened to be in the room as Buchanan and Born weaved their 2006 draft web. They got Roy and LMA. Then KP got named GM and traded away Z-bo and Nate got Taurean "4 wins" Green and Kpee traded him, too. Born and Buchanan just bode their time (allowing them to get invited to KP's for wine) and let KP do last year's draft b/c it was his going-away present. It didn't matter, b/c they were already building toxic offers. Then when Cho got hired, they thought "Let's just wait a bit more...this guy won't last long".

The steady hand(s) on the rudder since 2006!

In all seriousness, here's what that same article said about them:
Buchanan is valued for his consistent, always-positive demeanor, keen eye for talent and a strong ability to build relationships with college coaches and players. Buchanan met and started logging files on many of the prospects in this year's draft years ago when he was a domestic scout for the Blazers. He's also the biggest "feeler" of the group.

As the team debates the merit of, perhaps, trading Travis Outlaw, Buchanan might be the voice in the room saying, "Wait a minute. This guy is a glue guy in the locker room. How's this going to affect our chemistry?"

"Chad is a very, very thorough, diligent, hard-working guy who has a great eye for talent and understands basketball overall," Penn said. "He's also the biggest feeler of the group in that he has a constant eye on the team dynamic, the chemistry dynamic, and how a move is going to play among the feelings of a team. He reminds us of that all the time."

Born, like Buchanan, has a sharp eye for talent and for building relationships. With a background that includes coaching, front office work and playing at multiple levels, he has an innate understanding of basketball. Penn said he's a human "encyclopedia" of information about NBA players across the league. There's also this:

"Born is ultra competitive," Pritchard said. "It doesn't matter if you're playing Tiddlywinks, he's going to try to kill you. He brings that competitiveness every single day to the process."

Nate is Parcells now? Buying the groceries so his cooking doesn't suck as much?

That would be awesome! LOL
