After declining to offer general manager Rich Cho a new contract, Charlotte Hornets owner Michael Jordan is planning to target former Los Angeles Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak for a high-ranking role in the organization, league sources told ESPN.
Jordan is planning to continue grooming assistant GM Buzz Peterson as a foundation of Charlotte's front office, and Kupchak is a primary target to partner with Peterson, league sources told ESPN.
The Hornets announced Tuesday that Cho's contract will not be extended and that the search for a new GM will begin immediately.
"I want to thank Rich for all of his hard work with the Charlotte Hornets organization through the years and wish him and his family the best in the future," Jordan said in a statement. "Rich worked tirelessly on behalf of our team and instituted a number of management tools that have benefited our organization. We are deeply committed to our fans and to the city of Charlotte to provide a consistent winner on the court. The search will now begin for our next head of basketball operations who will help us achieve that goal."

This is because they don't want an Asian representing them for all star weekend next year.

Yep, but most owners go with what their GM tells them. They hire a GM for a reason - to run the team.

Even Paul Allen follows the recommendations of his GM, despite what some people think.

I think what probably happened was that they were expecting Monk to be gone by 11 and were planning on taking Mitchell all along (like the Kaminsky draft even though Winslow fell). When Monk was still there Cho probably wanted him since he was slotted to go higher in the mock drafts and Jordan likely wanted to stay with the plan. Cho probably convinced him that their original plan didn't have Monk available.

Allegedly, Jordan wanted Mitchell, but Cho argued that since they threw in with coach Clifford on the Dwight Howard bandwagon, they needed to surround him with shooters a la the '09 Magic, and that Monk was the right choice for that strategy. Jordan went against his gut and relented to Cho's logic.

Shit if I owned the team I would be the GM.

From what I've heard from a person who works in the organization. Jordan's brother has a TON of pull within the organization and often butts heads with Cho and the scouting department. They moved around people this offseason and it was only really a matter of time before Cho was out. If you think Paul/Kolde's relationship is bad or toxic, from what I'm hearing CHA is much much worse.

Is this true? Considering Jordan's talent evaluation in the past I don't believe it.
That was the report from Charlotte Observer writer Rick Bonell during a radio interview a couple weeks ago before the Blazers-Hornets game, as part of the reason why it was likely that Cho would not be retained past this season.

And it was good pizza.

Yeah cup, and he actually knew me by name.

By the way, he was also and engineer at Boeing before going into basketball.

The thing I'll never forget is him going into hysterics when he caught Sly taking a picture of his players and salaries list on his white board in his office.

I'm pretty sure he signed Storyteller's trade chart, though.

So @SlyPokerDog wasn't being very sly? He should have to change his name to UncleverPokerDog or something along those lines.

Oh man that sucks!

Cippy quoted someone Feb. 6:
The future of GM Rich Cho. Cho is in the final year of his contract and there have been rumblings that former Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak is a favorite among high-ranking team officials to take over next summer.
