I grew up in Indiana during his glory years and initially thought he was the greatest because of the national championships. When IU basketball was on, almost everyone watching. Status was how many years back you had IU basketball on VHS. I got wiser with age and saw him for what he was.

I have a Facebook page full of RIP wishes. Have even more if I did not have so many Trump supporters on unfollow. I do not think he ever changed so my opinion at his passing away is certainly not one of grief.

I was born in Bloomington and watching Indiana basketball was one of my first memories as a sports fan. Of course, I did that in Oregon, but I watched as many Hoosiers games as I could growing up. My favorite teams were the ones with Calbert Cheaney in the early 90s. I believe in '92, Indiana was a #1 seed and made the final four, the same season that Drexler finished 2nd in MVP and the Blazers made the finals. Probably the best year for me as a fan. I remember my adopted dad had nothing good to say about him, I remember him calling him an ass. I didn't feel that way. Many of his former players spoke very highly of him. His teams were disciplined. Good defense, good shooting. He graduated his players and showed interest in them long after their college careers. RIP to a basketball legend.
