It's happening for one reason, and one reason only: Advertising space. Any other justification given for it by the NBA is bullshit and spin.

But I also think it's because they want to sell something that they think fans are more likely to wear all the time, rather than just to games.

The fans hate them because they don't look as good as Dame while wearing them!

I hate them because I may need to poke my eyes out if I ever see The HCP wearing one.

Fams.

The problem is they will cost 100 bucks for the good one, i'd be all over it for like 30 though.

I was looking for the silver lining. :) They could make a decent tee, but they suck as jerseys.

I understand why the players hate them, but I don't think it's for the players.

The fans hate them because the fans hate change. Mostly I think they're doing it so they can put ads on the jersey, and provide something that fans will (in their opinion) wear in public.

You sound like the marketers who figure they can get us to slowly accept the idea. Problem is, the jerseys look stupid, plain and simple. Change isn't the issue here. They're trying for a distinct look more than a good look, and it's a bad approach. If you're going to have a skin-tight tee, you can't have baggy shorts and expect it to look right. And if you're going to try the soccer approach of a baggy tee, the players are going to hate wearing it. It hasn't been done before because it's dumb, not because it's different.

Adolf silver: "show me ze jersey. Ze sleeves are too short for your star, Jewden. We need more space fo ze stars ze jewden must be marked."

It's a fucking warmup, not a jersey dammit!

I'm still buying one or two. I'll be damned if I'll buy one with advertisements on it, though...

You will someday, or you will forever rock retro jerseys. Which let's be honest, is the cool thing to do even today.

20 years down the road I'll wear my T-Rob jersey to a game and people will be like ...

If I ever go to vegas summer league I'll wear my thrill jersey!

I have four Przybillas, a Blake from each time he was here, four Aldridges, three Roys, a Sergio, A Rudy, and a Pritchard. Plus a Petteri Kopponen Summer League jersey. Plenty of retros, lol...

sleeve jerseys are so damned ugly. Sucks they ruin our cool alternate with it, because now I never want to see the rip city jerseys worn.
I like how they defend them by saying fans will buy them to wear more often, because people don't want to wear tank tops, yet you see thousands of fans a every game with normal jerseys on. We've just all figured out that you can put a tshirt underneath it so it isn't simply a tank top.

So... in effect, it has sleeves...

I rock my przybilla every game day.

Then you should be fine to represent without having to be a billboard! I don't mind the sleeves for fans, don't like it for games. But I will not wear anything that turns me into a walking bus bench.

Well there ya go, your Blakey jerseys are good again, assuming he has the same number.

The worst thing about sleeved jerseys? The NBA is forcing them upon us. There was no demand for them. They look terrible and I can't imagine they're optimal for playing professional basketball in, either.

Like the plastic ball, the league and manufacturer made a secret contract to give the league a cut of future sales on a product with no current demand.

I don't have a problem with sleeves in the NBA. They have no effect on the stroke, if they did baseball pitchers would all wear tank tops. I'm amazed how many fans hate them though

It's two different arm movements...

It's not that the sleeves are long. It's that they are tight. The whole shirt is tight. These shirts should come with a gold chain.

Yeah... not sure who designed them, but most people like loose clothing for basketball.

Just wait until the NBA realizes how much more advertising they can sell if they make the players wear pants.

NASCAR track suits are clearly the way to go.

Still don't buy it. I grew up playing basketball, baseball, tennis and football with sleeves..Tank tops were only used in varsity games. Never noticed one iotta of difference in the motion. It's like saying, short shorts or baggy shorts. Fashion for fashions sake.
