@hoopsjock we using next year's salary totals for draft trades or this years? Greg Monroe has $17M in dead money against the cap this year. Could accept trades taking back salary during the draft that would realistically have to wait to be finalized until July 1st. How do you want to play that?

White side and Tyler Johnson for the #1 Tyson Chandler, TJ Warren, and Dudley
For the record I know Phoenix doesn’t do that even in a fever dream lol

Hey everyone,
@BonesJones and I were wondering if there is any interest in doing a mock off season for fun. This can be a really enjoyable experience but it does help if people are active in it. Here's how it would work:

Everyone playing would be assigned a team (or two if we only have 15 teams) and you'd be the GM of your team with complete control over any transactions. We'd then set a date for our fake NBA Draft. Before and during the draft you would be allowed to make as many trades as you want as long as they work under the CBA. You take on your team's exact roster, draft picks, etc. If it goes well we could even find a way to do a fake free agency.

As long as you are active and participate in it this type of thing is a lot of fun. It doesn't really matter how well you do as long as you are trying and don't just vanish so we have dormant teams. At the end we can compare rosters and see how everyone did and even revisit it at different points of the season or run 2K simulations to see what teams would win.

If you want to try it all you have to do is respond and put your top 3 choices in teams and I will decide who gets what team. @Gronk Brady or @LayneStaley I'll even give one of you two a shot at being the Blazers if you want them. Go ahead and tag other people if you think they'd enjoy it. Do we have enough wannabe GM's out there?

@TBpup I wanted to include you too if you want to play since you had discussed it with Bones.

First of all, lets wait until the spots are filled so it's fair to everyone for trades and people on the block. Second of all, I think we should do it like it was real life. Through June 30th (so draft included) all trades will be using this seasons cap numbers. However you can agree to a trade that can take place after July 1st but only if that trade works without other moves dependent upon it, if that makes sense. For example, you can't stretch players until July 1st so if they Lakers were planning on stretching Deng they couldn't make a trade that had to have the cap space for stretching him but they could make a trade using the space they already have (if they renounce free agents).

For the record, TJ Warren has a Poison Pill Contract so it's tough to trade him until the new year.

They might actually...something close to that anyway. Seems Miami would be the one to say no.

That other one I'm doing the Suns guy is a real dick so I've been purposely trying to study his roster to undermine him because he has tried to undermine some of my trades. They can get to about $20 million in cap space I think but those type of trades are tough to do before the draft.

Are we using 101,000,000 as the cap number?

If so I have 57.8 million in cap space. How do we determine who gets free agents?

Gotcha

When we have all the teams we'll decide as a group how to work free agency. Maybe people who don't have a team would be willing to represent key free agents and then you present your case to them and they choose? We'll figure that out later.

For right now we are using the current years salary and projections. The 76ers have $67.4 million in guaranteed contracts but that doesn't include the cap holds for draft picks, roster spots, or Redick, Amir Johnson, Belinelli, or Ilyasova. It also doesn't include McConnell or Holmes.

It might be a little too confusing to mix this years and next years numbers for trades so lets just make it easy and say that any pre-draft trades are going to be using this years numbers still.

We just need 4 more people if everyone is okay with doing 2 teams. I know there are several people that would do it but they haven't been posting today.

Ya, I looked. All kinds of cap space.

That makes no sense. Do next year's. It wouldn't change any changes other than we wouldn't have to wait until July 1st to finalize trades made on draft day.

I will type of apx. cap holds for your team(s) and the salary total with and without cap holds and send it to you guys.

No, because that isn't how it works in real life. You are wanting to do that because it helps the Suns. The Hawks are better off next year too but that isn't how it is supposed to work. If you go off of next years numbers you screw anyone who has non-guaranteed contracts or team options or cap space now.

Okay, well I could still make draft day deals that could go through after the calender turns?

If you want cap space now to do your trades switch to the Mavs before someone else takes them, ha ha.

Nah I like Pheonix. Just gonna have to agree in principal effective July 1st, if that'll be allowed.

That will depend on the trade and if you can prove that you can make it work without any other moves.

Just a heads up between all the picks and cap holds, Phoenix doesn't really have a huge amount of cap space.
