One of my favorites. First as Maverick & then as Jim Rockford in the Rockford files. I just saw him last week in a movie called "A man named sledge". And one of my favorite all time movies "The great escape" with Steve McQueen. For a while he was like Dick Clark when he never seemed to age. He'll be missed. R.I P. Bret Maverick, R.I.P. Jim Rockford. And R.I.P. James Garner.

I think the only movie I saw him in was Space Cowboys

Garner put himself on the line with service in Korea during that "conflict". Liked him very much in Maverick and the Great Escape as well. RIP Mr. Garner, you were one cool, sharp, individual.

...he was also a huge Raiders fan...used to see him along the sidelines at Raiders' home games back in the '70s.

I always liked him. 86 is a great life especially when you do what he did.

Wasn't there a film called Tank that he did?

Loved Rockford Files. Enjoyed much of his body of work. Barbarians at the Gates was awesome. RIP Maverick!

the familiar faces...............RIP James Garner.

I also enjoyed him in Support your local sheriff & Skin game with Lou Gossett Jr. He will be missed.

I think that was his characters name in Space Cowboys

Yep, ....... he played a character named Tank in Space Cowboys, BUT WAS in a movie called "Tank" - his character Zack....a funny movie, of a guy stealing a Tank; driving it thru the city streets.

A real life incident(s) like this has happened twice, in the decades sine Garner made the movie Tank.

In 2 different occassions, 15 years apart: a Tank was stolen from So. Cal. Armories, and drove over cars in the City Streets of San Diego, and Orange Co. The driver was apprehended after the Tank ran out of gas, & it got to hot inside for the tank thief. Thankfully there was no munitions on board the real life incidents....!

I looked it up afterwards and did see that... how many actors play the character of a previous movie they were in? Can't be too many...

Yes, excluding those sequels.... but even if you did, Sly Stallone for both Rocky & Rambo, Arnold for the Terminators, & Harrison Ford for Indiana Jones....

Mine too Rick, I enjoyed every show he was in, every movie he was in.

From his mannerisms to his sense of humor he was such a joy to watch. And Murphy's law was also terrific for which I believe he was nominated for an Oscar.

I always liked James Garner and his acting - he struck me as a good natured fellow and a regular guy....and that's good enough for me.
RIP James Garner.

If anyone is interested.........TCM will honor James Garner this coming
Monday all day, July 28th.
