To this day I think he's the only black man to ever live in Columbia County.

Back in the day, my dad owned carpet stores in SoCal. To show you how different the NBA is today, one offseason in the 60s or early 70s, LeRoy Ellis worked for my dad as a salesman - trying to learn a new trade before his basketball career ended.

Very nice, and tall, man as I recall.

I don't get the thread. He died months ago. His 33-win streak teammate Flynn Robinson died yesterday.

That streak, and the sophomore Walton gang, got me into being a basketball fan, since I lived there. When the Lakers then traded Ellis to the 76ers, he felt stabbed in the back. He went from 72 wins to 9 the next season. You can't beat that. No need to check whether it's the record.

Both Ellis and Flynn got few minutes on the championship team, although they were veteran starters from other NBA teams. That was a big difference between that team and today's championship teams. Depth. Gail Goodrich, the 2-guard, had averaged 8 assists per game as the starting Suns 1-guard. What a deep group of guards. And the only reason Robinson and Riley played was that the 3rd guard, Keith Erickson, was out all season.

Maybe it was the Bulls who won 72 and the Lakers won 71. Anyway.

I'm saddened by Flynn Robinson's passing. I played in a pickup game with him many years ago. He was kind to me and my buddy who also played in that game. He was late 30s and could really shoot still. He would stand in the bleachers and hit 10 in a row, nothing but net, even then. He actually did it while we were goofing around between games.

Robinson was a Bull. He was traded to the Bucks for Bob Love. Love turned out to be a superstar in his own right.

The Bulls won 72. No long win streaks, but they had no 2-game losing streaks.

What are you talking about, it was Leonard Marsh who just died.

Leonard Marsh! That guy in the quicksand ads?
