Older video of Yogi and the old YS...but if this doesn't to you, you're probably not human;

One of the themes that came out of all the talk about Yogi last night was that how people perceived his intelligence. Due to all of the quotes attributed to him there was a perception to some that he wasn't a smart man. Well consider the fact that he invested many of his World Series shares in Florida land that later because known as Disney World. Also, consider the fact that when approached by Yoo-Hoo to endorse their drink Yogi negotiated a piece of the company instead of just being a paid spokesman. Here's a man who looked out for his future instead of the quick payday. A very smart man indeed.

Berra was sharp as a tack, laughed all the way to the bank. When I became a fan the Yankee up the middle was Berra, Martin, and Mantle, pretty damn good cadre.

...cool story, Matts.

Thanks 59, another one of my Novels. At our age, its important IMO, to share our rich History involving the game, the Yanx, and Great HOF Players we've met. Which is one thing, many younger ones have unfortunately, never had these experiences. Mainly due to the way the game has changed, dramatically in ways. Like laying out like a beached shark, atop the dugout to obtain Mays and others autographs.

It's fun to watch the faces of young men, when they hear stories of yore; as one cannot do the same today without an automatic ejection.

Welcome to the Paranoid Era, kin to the black plaque era Era.

We grew up to become with our Heroes in our midst. With experiences from another bygone golden era, which we; or they will never see again....

I wish like hell, I'd of met you back in my Perry days, we could of had a helluva blast going to Yanx games, at Fulton Co. Stadium, then Turner Field in its debut year. I swear there were as many folks who worked for Northrop in Perry, Warner Robbins, and Milledgeville, who wore Yankee caps vs Braves caps, about a 50/50 mix (at work that is)......

Per Tim Kurkjian "He (Yogi) is the second greatest catcher behind Johnny Bench. Fuck you Timmy Boy, this Yankee fans says you are full of shit! Johnny Fucking Bench yurass!!!!!!!!!!

On September 28th of 1951, see italicized story of Yogi and Allie Reynolds, it speaks for itself, a good visceral of Yogi, and Infamy, which was his Legacy. (at end of page)...

Only Catcher to do several record records, no other would ever do, ie the only Man on Earth to Catch a Perfecto World Series Game. To - both of Allie Reynolds back to back No-Hitters. ***see italics, and URL prior.

Its a damn shame Yogi didn't get The Presidential Medal of Freedom while He was alive. I'd of hung one on Yogi, 1st day in Office. Typical of POTUS....pos.

From the side of DiMaggio, to handling of Reynolds. To the Commerce Comet, and breaking in Whitey. What a Fairy Tale come true Career, and Man who embodied that personae better than anyone.

Who didn't want to catch like Berra as a Little Leaguer in the 50s-early 60s, I did.

I found the 2nd URL, tells it like it was, the day it happened.....a doh- catch, then Infamy.

Reynolds pitched, and Williams swung. The ball went straight up in the air, behind the plate. He was going to do it! He approached the ball, but his sure-handed catcher Berra moved over a few steps to get it. Yogi got under it, waited... and completely muffed it. The ball bounced off the top of his glove as he closed his mitt a millisecond too early. Williams had new life, and Berra felt awful. When asked if he was upset about the missed opportunity, Reynolds dismissed this idea, saying, "No. I was just afraid I had stepped on Yogi's hand. I asked him and he said I didn't. I saw the wind blowing the ball toward the field." Reynolds was daring enough to throw the exact same pitch to Williams since he had just popped it up. Unbelievably, the .344/.482/.634 lifetime hitter popped it up again to Berra behind the plate. This time, Yogi made sure he didn't miss the opportunity. He caught it for the third out, and Reynolds had his second no-hitter of the '51 season.

There could not, and never will be another Yogi Berra, were lucky too of had Him for as long as We did.
