I don’t think I’d like a cruise. I don’t think I’d like being on someone else’s schedule during my vacation.
We travel a ton, I also ski about 20 days a year. Cruise is great in that you don't have to schedule anything, that's one of the main features!

Food whenever you want it, tons to do, no organizing or booking or reservations of anything needed. Can relax if you want and just watch the sea go by from your balcony.

I got to get to rockin' get my hat off the rack
I got to boogie-woogie like a knife in the back
So be my guest, you got nothin' to lose
Won't ya let me take you on a sea cruise?
Ooh-wee, ooh-wee, baby
Ooh-wee, ooh-wee, baby
Ooh-wee, ooh-wee, baby
Won't ya let me take you on a sea cruise?

I might be an old man but I just ain't old enough for a cruise.......got me picturing the young cruisers on this site wearing polyester pants in a variety of pastel colors, with ban roll waists, strolling the decks carrying bilious colored drinks topped with umbrellas, fending off blue haired old ladies. Cruise discussions make me see in stereotypes I guess.......

Kids on a Disney Cruise was a blast.
Might want to think again.

Bahamas.

Honestly I just love relaxing on the ship more than the ports. But I'll have to get off 3 days with wife/kids.

Daycare on the cruise is huge for those of us with young kids.
You have to get off the boat for 3 days in the Caribbean? You poor Man, I’m so sorry. I always heard people say “life isn’t fair” but I’ve never understood it until now.

About 10 years ago my parents took their first cruise, dad was totally against it going in, now it's pretty much every vacation they take. They've been all over the place and just last year did a Mediterranean one and then got back on the ship and sailed it across the Atlantic into Ellis Island and said it was one of the coolest experiences they've ever had. Convinced the rest of the family to go on a cruise this past summer, my wife was super nervous for the year going into it. We got on the ship and within two days she was asking when are we going to book the next one. I get they aren't for everyone and when things go bad on them, they can really go bad (my wife's aunt and uncle were on the poop cruise) but we had a great time and had nothing to worry about when it came to meals, drinks, entertainment. Really was a fun way to vacation!

Lmao yeah what's even less significant than 1st world problems? That's was my last three days.

Ended up being fine going off the boat. First day was Celebration key in Bahamas, it's private beach/resort that Carnival owns and just opened. Kids played a ton at the beach then last few hours in the pool.

Next day was Half moon cay. Again Carnival owned beach. Amazing blue water and very nice beach. The boat shuttle was a bit annoying and took awhile, as opposed to all the other ports you just walk off the ship.

Final stop was Nassau which is the capital. Wife walked around with older girl and they enjoyed a beach/shops. Me and younger girl walked to shops briefly then just went back on the boat. Later we all had a very nice Thanksgiving dinner.

Carnival with camp ocean Daycare is awesome for families with kids. Other guests said they found carnival is the best for kids. I'm sure Disney cruise is great too but it's probably more spendy. If it was only adults I'd consider other cruise line, although there are still plenty of adult only pools and areas.

I'd say biggest thing is getting a new ship. Back in March we went on Jubilee which had more dining options and was better. Current ship is nice but just not as big which we prefer. Some old people prefer smaller ships though as it's hard for them to go from one part of the ship to others. Big ships are about 8000 people with staff (and not really that crowded 90% of the time)

Agreed, the cruise we did back in March was our first and we loved it. Wish I had done it 20 years ago as without kids school schedules there's tons of super affordable dates. We've really loved the cruise and plan to always do a couple per year.

We do a ton of other traveling too, there are different types of trips that all have advantages/disadvantages. Sometimes planing every part of the schedule yourself is an advantage. Sometimes it's instead a hassle. I'd do a cruise instead of any all inclusive type of hotel vacation. The prices aren't even more expensive.

People who criticize cruises but have never done one themselves on a nice new ship are ignorant. They can't fairly judge it until they try it. It would be like me grading tampons.

It’s crazy how your idea of an ideal vacation changes with your circumstances.
For years we would want to go to a resort type of situation just so the kids could stay busy and have fun. Once those fuckers grew up it became about us. The past few years now it’s all about peace and quiet and not seeing a soul. Get me a quiet beach cabin away from everybody. Don’t want to see another soul. That’s what mode we are in now. My brother is a nut job and goes to these all inclusive resorts.
I’ll send him pics of us on a beach with NOBODY around for miles……he sends me pics that look like he’s at a pool party in Clackamas at an apartment complex. Surrounded by fat old white guys as far as the eye can see…..HA! I think I would kill myself on a cruise…..sorry.

I like both. Quiet and secluded is great. Also love going and running with the kids. Gonna be a day they don’t want me around so I might as well have fun with them now.

Cruise certainly isn't a remote vacation with.few people. Cruise is instead an alternative to yes all inclusive type. You also travel all year for work to crowded big cities, makes total sense you don't.want similar getaway. I work 50 hours a week alone at a computer.

We vacation to Alaska in the winter with young kids. Very few people around on that trip. We also go camping to remote areas, again that's a very different vacation. We enjoy all different types of vacations and they serve very different purposes.

Fantastic points. Never thought of that, but it’s probably true.

My favorite "cruises" were fifteen years spent sailing the Puget Sound with my brother from another mother. An old, 26' boat with only the basic amenities, but all that were needed. No kids, wives, pets, Karens or Kevins. Stopping when and where we want, no adult supervision, no dress codes, making up the rules (and all the noise we wanted) as we went along. But I guess my navy experience left me leery of large ships crammed full of people....no elbow room.....
