Can someone explain to me why Portland is referred to as Rip City?
I think Eugene already had "Moss and the Stench of Damp Hippies City" taken.

I love the concept -- but it's a little busy -- and not as functional imo. Would like to see how it looked on the banner before I give thumbs up or down.I took a swing at this.
Comments welcome.

I'd remove the black background on the blazers part. Other than that, it's hot. IMO, we should put the 2.0 behind every logo. It's pretty awesome.I took a swing at this.

I simply wanted to add a bit of dynamicism to the banner, since it's a sports forum, but adding that effect to the box, too, would just been way too much. The effect only looks good when slightly understated. I thought it looked nice, like the text rushing "into" the stationary box.To clarify -- the "busy-ness" that I referred to was more about the text fade. I would like to see how it would look as a banner -- the contrast between the two colors on the textfade is what I was kind of getting at. I don't know if I like the Rip City Two in white over the 2.0. Not sure if Red for for either the 2.0 or the Rip City or maybe a softer white for the Rip City may be a little easier to read. I got no talent on this kind of stuff soThe criticims don't bother me. Every issue brought up is one I pondered myself. To respond to each criticism with my own thinking on each:
1.Too busy -- I tried to keep the informational content to the essentials and go light on the effects while trying to make something that wasn't kind of standard. A good banner shouldn't try to tell you everything, because space is limited. It should just give the essence.
2. No "Portland Trailblazers" -- I felt this was non-essential information. The Portland Trailblazer logo is present and it's hard to think of a use case in which someone would be there without already knowing its purpose (since text in a graphical banner won't aid search results in Google).
3. Text faded behind text -- This is what I thought about the longest. I feel text can be faded behind text without being distracting if one of the two messages is not words. Another word behind text would be distracting, but I think a number is fairly easy on the eye to separate without "effort." If the number in symbols were different from the number in words ("Two"), there could be something like a Stroop effect, but in this case it's reinforcing, not competing. Ultimately, it's opinion, but I think in practice, this isn't effortful to read and makes an attractive look.
4. The balance between action and stability -- There's nothing theoretical here, unfortunately.I simply wanted to add a bit of dynamicism to the banner, since it's a sports forum, but adding that effect to the box, too, would just been way too much. The effect only looks good when slightly understated. I thought it looked nice, like the text rushing "into" the stationary box.

Made this a couple days ago because i was bored. =)
Here's an alternate design, which I did with what people have said about the original design in mind. The "2.0" is faded more and larger, as more of an "whole banner background." I experimented with making the "RipcityTwo" text Blazer red, but that doesn't contrast enough with the black background...it fades into it too much, as a dark on dark.
As before, comments/criticism welcome.

Of course, the big problem is that you didn't keep to the dimensions of the original banner. My understanding is that it has to be 277x90.
