Personally, I was sad at first, but now fuck you Robin Williams you were loved by millions and killing yourself is the ultimate bitch move. You were not a 95 year old person literally on your deathbed, I am sorry you could not overcome your demons but what you did to your family is shameful.

Obvious troll is obvious.

He was a really underrated serious actor, loved Good Morning, Vietnam and Good Will Hunting.

He's not trolling, it's just the unfortunate problem we are facing in this country. Mental health isn't being given enough of our time, or respect. Hopefully this incident can help improve the care we take for those who have a mental illness, whatever it is...sadly I've been watching this movie for about 5 years, and the ending is always the same.

One of the reasons I'm most sad about Williams passing, is that I feel horrible that he was so tortured that this is what he thought needed to happen.

I have a lot of respect for the people in this thread who have talked about their personal struggles with depression, other mental illnesses, or how medication changed their mind and made them depressed. I'm glad you all became a better person because of your experiences, and I encourage everyone to remember that severe depression can happen to anyone you love. Your mom, brother, daughter, wife, yourself, even your dog. There's nothing wrong with being depressed, and there is always a way to overcome it.

I agree with this being depressed is a terrible feeling. There is a feeling of hopelessness and worthlessness tied into it. Overcoming it can be very difficult but suicide is never the answer.

People close to someone who has taken their own life frequently feel guilt, frustration, and anger along with their sorrow. Being honest about that isn't trolling.

I admit I feel like we've all been robbed some by his passing. I think we lose by not having him around for the next 20+ years.

I'm not pissed at him, just sad that he couldn't get past his problems.

I think that it's time people realize that depression is a terrible disease. People don't ask to be depressed. It hits them and many of them are unable to climb out of it. Nobody faults a terminal cancer patient for wanting doctor assisted suicide. They recognize that a person with cancer is suffering, and the humane thing is for that person to be able to die on their own terms, if they so choose. People with severe depression are suffering as well, but we can't see it. Not like cancer. They live with depression until they get to the point where they can't live with it anymore. We treat people with depression like lepers. If you seek therapy, or admit that you've had suicidal thoughts, that's something that will follow you around for the rest of your life. If you want a job with the government, they specifically ask you if you've ever considered suicide at any point in your life.

People don't want to admit that they have suicidal thoughts. They don't want to admit they've gone to therapy. They don't want to admit they are depressed and they don't want to admit they're in trouble. That mother who killed herself a couple weeks ago is a perfect example. Nobody had any idea until it was too late. We need to stop treating depression like it's something that people choose, and start treating it like it's something people are inflicted with. If we treated it like any other illness, maybe people would be more willing to seek help. Maybe people like Robin Williams and Phillip Seymour Hoffman would still be alive.

I can't get enough coverage of this. I'm not even really a big movie guy, but I've seen pretty much everything that he's made. I didn't realize just how big of a fan I was until his passing. Just a couple weeks ago I was youtubing his stand up from the 80's which I loved. Just thought the guys was magic.

Here's a cool video on how he named his daughter Zelda:

Having an opinion is one thing, but saying, "His kids are always going to have to live knowing their dad would rather die than be their dad" is not an opinion.

How do you not understand that a statement like that to someone who is only three years removed from losing their own father would cut deeply? Your family has dealt with losing a family member to suicide, we get it, so why can't you just empathize with what the guy is going through and apologize?

Sure it's an opinion. For those who are driven so crazy by PapaG, perhaps you should care less about what he writes.

Haven't clicked on a single link..... Haven't made one comment in here or Facebook about this topic until now.

I loved him as an actor..... But everybody putting him on this pedestal has made me feel sick to my stomach.

Everybody is taking about his battle with depression. What about his weakness with drugs and a alcohol that led to all his financial problems.

Men on both sides of my family have all been alcoholics and all I've grown up with is them blaming alcohol for everything that has gone wrong in their lives.

A girl a few houses down from me growing up jumped off the Fremont bridge when we were like 15...... Absolutely devastated all of us kids in the neighborhood. Tore apart her family.

My girlfriend my senior year killed herself. We had broken up after the first of the year.... And she took her life in March. She had reached out to me the night before.

It was probably the hardest thing I had ever dealt with. I was very angry at her about it for years.

Everybody's situation is different, but in my opinion, suicide is the chicken shit way out. They aren't the victim..... Wives, husbands, innocent kids and loved ones are. They shouldn't have to suffer for your weaknesses.

This is my opinion and I hope nobody is offended by it. My thoughts and prayers are with his family that he quit on NOT with him.

His financial problems were caused by the evil legal system taking most of his money for the crime of divorce. A man is foolish to get married.

Hit the nail on the head on that one.

Alcohol is often self-medicating used by people hurting.

The hateful attitudes we see here explain why people suffering as Williams did don't reach out. They are afraid they will hear exactly what PapaG and cmeese say, get the fuck over yourself, dude. Man up. What the hell do you have to be sad about?

I've gone through a lot of shit in my life. Guess what I do when I get knocked down? Get the Fuck back up and keep moving on in life.

I have a childhood buddy who smokes pot and drinks as a crutch because he doesn't want to face reality. You know what got him there? Himself. He blames his mom which is ridiculous. His brother is a 4.0 student going to school to be a doctor.

Alcohol and drug use is a lame excuse.

It seems like Fonz was the one who overreacted in this thread, not PapaG.

Multiple posters have said the same things as PapaG now

People who have dealt with people close to them committing suicide, and their opinion on it is pretty much the same as the opinion expressed by PapaG.

As always, the management here on S2 is pretty bad, and a poster was once banned again for it. A lot of posters banned/suspended these days which was unheard of 3-4 years ago.

Feels like Steve Patterson and John Nash are running this place honestly

You were never banned. You were suspended for 24hrs and you made a different moniker so you could continue posting.

Never said don't be sad but killing yourself is pathetic

A lot of posters? Who exactly is "a lot of posters?"

It's the same dude over and over.

It's the same dude over and over.

I can think of three without even putting out any effort..myself, Maxie and RoyToy..seems that I have seen a couple of others..but for the most part it has been a pile on..can not say I am thrilled with the direction PapaG went...but I have gained an understanding why there was an apparent dis equity of fair play.
