Someone on here mentioned that they felt modern rock music is dead and cited the likes of Coldplay and Snow Patrol as examples of it's downfall and how there are no good rock bands anymore.

What does everyone think about that statement and could you disprove it?

The majority of rock bands are increasingly more commercial, which is the opposite of what rock is all about.

But, there are still alot bands who stay true and dont sell out

I think you might be getting Rock and Punk confused here. Rock has always been about "making it" and getting your musical message to a wider audience. Punk is the anti-establishment, DIY-ethic style of the two.

Snow Patrol, rock? Coldplay, rock?

I think these so called music critics should define the genre before they start spouting their shite off to the general public. There's plenty of good rock out there. You simply have to take your eyes (or should I say ears) away from the commercial money spinning roundabout that is the Pepsi Chart. Or whatever they call it these days.

Care to list your current select rock cuts?

I'm plumping for groove-based Stoner rock bands such as Clutch, Corrosion of Conformity, Spiritual Beggars, Unida and Kyuss.

I hate most rock anyway so I dont care

Hand your badge, gun and testicles in at the front desk and leave through the service door. We'll send you your final paycheck in the post.

Most chucklesome.

Can't say I've heard of any of those bands in the post prior to that one Soilburn. I've always loved The Smashing Pumpkins, try that for some proper old school shizzle.

If you like full-on, riff-heavy rock music, seriously give Clutch a spin. Anything off of their album Blast Tyrant should do it.

Depends what rock your talking about. Coldplay, Snow patrol etc are what i call Brit Rock. More chilled out. But the type of rock that Queen and Guns and Roses sang is long dead IMO

arctic monkeys..killers....oasis

fuckin hell you must be a inbred

There's definitely still rock. There's just A LOT more bands these days that are alternative, punk, hardcore, heavy, etc.

And of course, the ones into the normal rock category are the ones that get into the charts, plus the odd one from the alternative, punk etc. category that gets there too.

Metal. They're metal bands.

well they are more rock than any bands mentioned yet

Have you heard any of those? Trivium and Dragonforce are not rock by any stretch of the imagination.

trivium is rock

muse, foo fighters, some of linken park is solid rock others are hybrid hence hybrid theory, arctic monkeys are getting more rocky, the gossip are a new rok band, it aint dead its jsut not as popular amongst the masses becaus sending our messages like old rock types isnt as important

the kilers are indie, alot of bands that people are calling rock are indie

Screaming down the microphone making no sense at all? If ypu call that Rock then there is something wrong with your head. It's not music, its bull

When Trivium are signed to a metal label, marketed as a metal band and tour with metal bands, how can you say they are rock? Rock doesn't use double-bass drums in the drumming. Rock doesn't use heavy guitar sounds. Rock isn't about screaming.

Trivium are not rock. They are metal.

Indie is a sub-genre of rock. Originally, it meant the band was independant and pressed, sold and marketed their own CDs themselves through their own labels. It's not a sound or an attitude. It's a method.

Bands like Foo Fighters (as were mentioned) are hard rock, which is bordering on metal but lacks some of the key ingredients that push it into that genre.

Linkin Park's first and second albums were metal, or more specifically, Nu-metal (hip-hop influenced, drop-d tuned metal). They've evolved into a hard rock band with their new material.

And The Gossip are terrible. For aband so reliant on bass-lines, it sure is some boring bass work and all their tunes sound the same. Plus that singer of theirs needs to keep her tent-sized clothes on.
